Nerf Furyfire - Review!

Introducing the Nerf Dart Tag Furyfire!

The Nerf Furyfire is the standard blaster used in Nerf Dart Tag League (NDTL) Tournaments held during the Dew Tour 2009 in the USA.

This blaster features pump-action priming, an auto-advancing barrel and 10-dart ammo capacity. Its form factor is slightly bulkier than the Nerf Maverick but it is still compact enough to be very maneuverable in close quarter Nerf games.

Its trigger auto-advances the barrel. Unlike the Maverick, the Furyfire's barrel does not flip out for dart loading, it is reloaded by pulling the trigger and loading in the foam darts individually.

The package comes with 2 pairs of vision eyewear, 2 sets of dart tag vests and 20 Tagger foam darts (10 for each blaster). The Furyfire is compatible with all Nerf foam darts too.

The Furyfire's pump-action mechanism and front barrel assembly is quite solid, so it should be able to withstand the rigors of outdoor Nerf game usage. The average firing range is around 25-30 ft.

  1. Very Nice. We've just got them here as well (Minot, ND).

THis gun does feel very solid, and should stand up to the rigors of outdoor place.

The barrel is much better than the Maverick. Stability-wise. I haven't had a single mis-fire with these yet. Whereas with the Mavs, I've had some bad ones right outta the box.

I find it worth mentioning there is also a space in the handle base for storing an additional dart.

  2. This type of pumping design is faster and friendlier! Cool!

  3. I finally saw this set in my area and it looks great. The gun looks like a pump-action high-cap Mav, and that's a good thing.

Do you have the Raider? I'm looking forward to your thoughts and photos of it!

  4. Yup, the Nerf Raider is arriving in SG stores very soon too. Once i get hold of a set, i'll definitely do a review on it. :)

  5. hyperfire or furyfire stronger? i only have enugh money to buy 1 of them and pls give a detailed ans

  6. I've tested the Hyperfire and Furyfire, and they both basically have around the same firing range.

But the Hyperfire is an older dart tag model and i've experienced a few issues when using it. For example, the Hyperfire is rather front heavy (causing strain on the wrist after prolonged usage) and the top-slider priming mechanism is not as ergonomic to use.

The Furyfire is the latest dart tag model and solves the Hyperfire's issues by positioning the enclosed barrel closer to the trigger grip (creating better balance) and using a pump-action priming mechanism, which is much more ergonomic to use.

In summary, get the Furyfire. :)

  7. its my friends' birthday a week later, im thinking of buying this nerf gun for them as they are twins. they're like 9 yrs old. is the gun's cocking mechanism suitable for them? P.S. they're boys

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yes, the Furyfire is definitely suitable for young players as the priming action is very easy and ergonomic.

They will have alot of fun with the Furyfire set! :)

  9. i have a question, in all these videos, how far are you from your targets? because either your an amazing shooter or you are quite close to your targets. it seems that all your shots cluster really well and i was just curious.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Good question, all my test fire videos are usually around just 10-12 ft away, has to be close enough so that my camera can capture the footage and shots clearly.

Yup, thats why all my shots are always on target! :)

  11. are streamlines compatible with the nerf furyfire?

  12. Yes, streamline darts are compatible with the Furyfire.

  13. i'm living in the Netherlands and buyd the furyfire yesterday but the range is a lot better as yours it's like 50 ft umodded. my friend has also got a furyfire an his is also firing at that range. any idea on why that could be?

and after removing the ar's if you fire dry, is that bad for your gun or doesn't it matter? cause with a furyfire you fire dry a lot.

  14. david,

No idea, those must be some really "unique" stock Furyfires you guys got.

I've personally never seen stock Furyfires achieve those ranges... unless the users fired them at steep 45 degree lobbing angles while standing on elevated ground, or there was a particularly strong tail wind.

Maybe you guys can upload a video showing your stock Furyfires achieving those ranges? It'll definitely amaze lots of people. :)

After the ARs are removed, try not to dry-fire as repeated uncushioned hard impacts will eventually crack the plunger.

Remember to put proper padding material inside the plunger base to help cushion the impact.

  15. I bought one of the original dart tag sets. the Red vs. Blue. and I decided to modify it without consiquence since I want a green and orange set. But I took the spring out of the red one snipped a bit off of it and added it to the stock spring in the blue one it was rather hard to do putting the trigger release back in but I did it. anyway also after removing all 10 of the AR's. It shoots 30ft sitting flat on the ground and it'll launch them up to 70ft angled on the ground. All darts are sock sonic micros.

  16. Does the furyfire work with the micro dart tag darts 30 pack refill (not the official 36 pack)or is it just for strikefire and hyperfire?

    ReplyDelete
  17. nerfmad,

Yes, the Nerf Micro Darts (suction tipped foam darts) can be used in the Furyfire blasters.

    ReplyDelete
  18. When you said pump-action, do you mean that they use air pressure principle like the magstrike? Or they use spring power like the other blasters?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Musta,

The Nerf Furyfire is a spring plunger powered blaster, the priming process uses a pump action movement, like a shotgun.

    ReplyDelete
  20. When I load the darts into the furyfire a couple of darts slide out a few millimetres, even if the gun is pointing up. Is there something wrong with the darts, gun or both??? How do I fix it??

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am unsure if I should buy this product. As I have noticed, the administrator of this blog answers questions asked. So perhaps he/she would answer this question: Should I buy this set with considoration that I have the Maverick Nite-Finder, Recon and Raider Nerf blasters?

  22. fatso393,

Looks like your foam darts are abit loose and get pushed out by the air-restrictors too easily.

Try other foam darts to see if that happens. If it still occurs with all your foam darts, it could be a unit with odd manufacturing variations in the barrel, so it'll be best to just return it to the store and exhange for a new working one.

  23. dontaskme98,

Sure, the FuryFire is a good Dart Tag blaster to add to any Nerf collection.

    ReplyDelete
  24. PKMNDanny,

Nope, the Nerf Furyfire does not have the slam-fire feature.

  25. I got a set today for $40 AUD (RRP $80 I think). Anyway, the orange gets 14m with DT darts, and 15+m with whistlers. (green one gets 1 or 2m less) Any particular reason for this or just lucky? Also, my new NF's get 14m with suctions.

all ranges measured flat, no mods done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Oh yeah, I should add that I am firing indoors, hence wind is not effective.

    ReplyDelete
  27. P13c30fch33s3,

As with all Nerf blasters, there are always manufacturing variations between individual units, so each blaster's performance will be abit different.

You may have indeed been lucky and got extraordinary units, 'cos i've tested dozens of those blasters that you mentioned over the years but have never seen their stock ranges achieve above 10-11m.

Not doubting your ranges, but the standard way to measure ranges is using a measuring tape and firing the blasters parallel-to-ground (ie. flat range) and counting where the foam darts land, not angled and including in the dart bounce. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Maybe I should use a measuring tape then - I've always used pacing as I've paced 1m rulers many times. In many cases though, the dart actually bounces backwards, especially in the cases of the Whistlers and DT darts, presumably because of the shape of the head.

What's the greatest range you've seen from a fully modded Furyfire? I expect with full rebarrel, excellent seal, very strong spring and well made stefans you'd get maybe 25 or so metres.

    ReplyDelete
  29. P13c30fch33s3,

With AR removal and a 9kg load aftermarket spring, air-tight turret rubber washer seal (well, as good as you can get from a rotating barreled blaster), and brass barrel inserts for a tighter dart seal, with stefans... around 18-20m (50-60ft).

Around the same as a similarly modded Maverick, they both share almost similar plunger sizes anyways.

These blasters tend to be limited by plunger air volume and too little space in the casing to use stronger springs.

    ReplyDelete
  30. how long does this gun take to reload? oh and i load my maverik the same way so i have some practice.

    ReplyDelete
  31. 12 dan 12,

It reloads as fast as you can put foam darts into its rotating barrel.

Furyfire definitely better... 10 shot ammo capacity vs only 1 shot ammo capacity in the Strikefire. :)

      Both ranges are similar too.

They have been sold out for quite a while locally, i guess you'll have to get them from online or overseas stores (if they still have stock).
