Nerf Longshot CS-6 (Yellow) - Review!

Nerf has introduced an update for the Nerf Longshot CS-6!

The new Nerf Longshot now comes in a Yellow paint scheme. Mechanically it still operates via the same bolt action magazine-fed firing system.

The main improvement is the new color consistency with the rest of the N-Strike blaster range, especially when swapping the interchangeable blaster components between Nerf Longshots and Nerf Recons.

Note: The new Nerf Longshot (yellow version) comes packaged with only 1 x 6-dart magazine (additional magazines are sold separately).

Review of the Blue Nerf Longshot Here.

Review:

Nerf Longshot - Box (Back)

Nerf Longshot - Un-Boxed

Nerf Longshot - Assembled (with optional 2nd Magazine in the stock)

  1. Yup, you can now find the new Yellow Longshots at all major department stores and Toys R Us outlets in Singapore! :)

  2. Not sure how in-depth you're running, but apparently the spring's different from the original blue versions. I haven't picked one up yet to open and make a comparison myself, but here's the thread on it.

  3. Yeah, i read about that too... well, so far i've test fired a few magazines on the blue and yellow versions for comparison and both still achieved the same average ranges.

So i guess the different springs doesn't seem to have affected the stock ranges. :)

    ReplyDelete
  4. You said it came with 1 magazine clip right? How come in your photos you have 2 orange clips?

    ReplyDelete
  5. Yup, the new Yellow Longshots are now packaged with only 1 x 6 dart magazine.

I put a second magazine in the stock for comparison purposes (i have additional spare magazines).

Spare magazines are not avaliable in SG yet, but you can buy additional magazines from online (or from Toy R Us stores in M'sia), its called the N-Strike Mission Standard Clip Pack. :)

  6. Is it sold in the US? I searched it on Hasbro.com and there was no results for a Yellow Nerf Longshot.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes, its on sale in the states. Check around the stores in your area, you should be able to find them :)

  8. Cool. I have my own Nerf blog type thing. Can I ask where you get your info? I didnt see any official blog on Nerf.com.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I get all my latest info from various nerf forums, news sites and industry representatives. :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Can you get the longshot in Oz?
    where can I get one?
And does it come with two clips

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm not familiar with the avaliability of longshots in oz, you'd have to check around your local stores in australia to find out.

Blue Longshots come with 2 clips, Yellow Longshot come with only 1 clip. :)

  12. hmmm they are availble here but how much is it im sure its more expansive than recon right? and also i looking for nerf rapidfire ,could u post the detials here? ,thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Nerf Longshots are retailing in SG for SGD$79.90.

The Nerf Rapid Fire 20 is not avaliable in SG yet, at the moment you'll have to get it from M'sia or online stores. :)

  14. overall, I think the yellow longshot doesn't look quite as good as the blue version, plus you'll notice a vast majority of people have the blue version, not the yellow. although I will say, the yellow longshot goes insanely beautifully with the recon barrel, which I really prefer in looks and style, in comparison with the original secondary gun attachment.

  15. Hey, I didn't know you were from Singapore! I'm from Taiwan and I'll definitely look out for yellow Longshot here in Taiwan!

I got a blue one from US and it's so big I can't hardly ask anyone to bring another for me.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Cool... yeah, definitely must look out for the new yellow Longshots, they'd make a great addition to a collection.

Btw, i've seen some of your nerf blaster repaints too, excellent work you've got there! :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. Lol. I'm more into the lazer tag right now, so of course I've repainted and mod my tagger. Maybe I will put lazer tag into my re-painted longshot! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Nice... i also have a pair of the LazerTag Phoenix LTX blasters too, ordered a set from Amazon.

But as its still not avaliable in SG yet, its tough to find people to play LazerTag games here at the moment.

Hopefully after they get re-branded into Nerf, they'll start hitting the store shelves soon! :)

  19. Awesome, its on sale at TRU where I live right now for a great price-$25 USD. Im going to try to pick one up tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  21. The Toys R Us website is never updated properly, there are alot of items in the stores that are not listed on that site.

You'll have to visit the stores to see what they actually have... or call them to find out stock avaliability. :)

  28. Please help me! I'm desperately trying to get the 2009 Nerf Laser Tag 2PK. Any idea where they sell it in Singapore?

    ReplyDelete
  29. So far i've not spotted any Nerf Lazer Tag blasters avaliable in Singapore stores yet.

The other alternative is to order them from online merchants like Amazon.com.

    ReplyDelete
  30. The Longshot box states that it can fire up to 35 ft.

From my experience... if aimed parallel to ground, it'll fire up to an average 25-30 ft. If aimed at an elevated angle (ie. 30 degrees), then it'll reach around 35 ft.

    ReplyDelete
  31. are darts included in nerf yellow longshot?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yes, Yellow Longshots are packaged with one 6-dart Magazine and 6 Streamline foam darts.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I just bought a longshot successfully at OG bugis there. I see there is 5boxes left.

    ReplyDelete
  34. i modded my longshot (doubled the spring, removed the ar and covered the air release hole and i got 80ft straight.

    ReplyDelete
  35. which is better? yellow or blue? I have another clip anyways......

    ReplyDelete
  36. NerfMasterVim,

Both the Blue and Yellow Longshots are pretty much the same externally and internally.

The main difference is the colour... and number of clips supplied. :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. what is better the longshot or the longstrike?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jose Luis,

If you are planning to keep the blaster in original stock condition, then both the Longshot and Longstrike perform around the same, so it just depends on which design you like better.

If you are going to modify the blaster for more range, then the Longshot will be the best choice as it has a larger direct spring plunger system (which offers much further range after modding), compared to the Longstrike's smaller reverse plunger system.

    ReplyDelete
  39. where do i buy this cuz i went to takashimaya, kiddy palace, toys r us,metro and it doesnt have it:(

    ReplyDelete
  40. nerfmaster24,

Longshots are becoming very rare locally.

Perhaps you can check at the NerfSG forum trading section, there might be forum members there with Longshots for sale.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Are u selling any sets invade I can't find them ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. is the yellow longshot harder to mod like the yellow nitefinder is
p.s. what should i get first a longshot or a titan

    ReplyDelete
  43. playstationwiisixty,

From my experience, yellow Longshots are mechanically the same as blue Longshots (just different colour). No difference in modding work required.

I'd recommend getting the Longshot first, its a more all rounded blaster to use in games.

The Titan is more of a large single shot missile launcher thats a fun add-on to your Nerf collection. :)

    ReplyDelete
  44. hey where can i find it i am dying to get this!! it is not available at some tru

    ReplyDelete
  45. qin xuan,

The Nerf Longshot is now out-of-production and local stores have sold out all their Longshot stock.

Check at the NerfSG forum (www.nerfsg.com) trading section, there are some local members who might still have Longshot sets available for sale.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Would I be able to buy it in stores in Canada?

    ReplyDelete
  51. what about the red longshot? is their any difference or was that whole "crimson strike" thing just promotional (which it probably was anyways)

    ReplyDelete
  52. john,

The "Crimson Strike" Longshots were a Walmart exclusive model available for a short while in the States.

They are basically the same as Blue or Yellow Longshots but just in a Red color scheme.

Very rare nowadays though and they can command high prices amongst collectors.

    no longer available ?

    ReplyDelete
  60. not sure how in depth ur running, but the longshot's scope has some minor magnification abilities. about 0.25x i think

    ReplyDelete
  61. barrettm107cqbr,

0.25x? You mean you see everything only 1/4 the original size through your Longshot scope? Just kidding.

I assume you mean 1.25x... i guess you were just experiencing some image distortion when looking through the Longshot scope's cheap warped transparent plastic pieces. :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete

Nope, Nerf Longshots are no longer available at local stores in Singapore.

    ReplyDelete
  67. What!!! I thought you say we can find them at all major department stores and Toys R Us outlets in Singapore???

    ReplyDelete
  68. Low,

The reviews are done a while back and if you are referring to the last batch that popped in local stores:

    http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2010/12/nerf-longshot-cs-6-back-in-singapore.html

    They are all sold out.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So.... I cant buy them in Singapore or there are still some places where I can get them?

    ReplyDelete
  70. Low,

As mentioned in my response to your query at the "Singapore Nerf Stock List" section in this site... the only way to get Longshots nowadays is to order them from overseas online stores (if they still have stock) or check at the NerfSG forum trading section to find local enthusiasts who may have spare sets available for sale.

    ReplyDelete
  71. haw haw haw i cannot believe in oz we have so many longshots!!!
i recently picked one up. im not sure why the casing has a couple of black marks and they are not removable, could u help me???
p.s. at least the internals are good...i get 13.6 m straight no mods. (probably 45-50 ft?)

    ReplyDelete
  72. barrettm107cqbr,

Good to hear that there are still remaining stocks of Longshots in Australia, i guess the demand in Oz isn't as crazy as in Singapore.

The last one-off shipment of Yellow Longshots that popped up at local stores in Singapore during December 2010 were all snapped up very quickly.

As for the black markings on your particular Longshot unit, i've no idea what they are, could be a factory defect or it might be a returned unit that got re-sold (previous buyer marked it, then returned it), it happens sometimes. Anyways you can just return it to the store and exchange for a unit with a nicer casing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  73. lol xD i didt exchange it because it has such nice internals!!! anywayz in oz demand is still crazy but for some reason, we keep restocking!!! woot!

    ReplyDelete
  74. longshot is great

    ReplyDelete
  75. how far dose it shoot?
    sorry if it in there

    ReplyDelete
  76. Steven,

The box states "shoots up to 35ft". :)

Average tested stock range is around 30-35ft.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Hey SG Nerf,
Just wondering, I noticed on Oz LS boxes and the final LS shipment to your place, I see that the box no longer says 'The Longest Nerf Blaster!' and where it says that has been replaced with 'Shoots up to 35ft/11m'
    Am i correct?
P.S Just if you don't know, the 'Sonic' (Green for good 4 the environment)l series was released because Hasbro stopped using plastic wires to hold their products and opt for paper wire.
Is that correct? I noticed it when i was buying my friend a nite-finder and i compared to my other nite-finder which is still in its box. (it was from 2008)

    ReplyDelete
  78. barrettm107cqbr,

Box designs and text vary depending on production batch.

One of the reasons why the "Longest Nerf blaster" label was omitted from the newer Longshot boxes is probably because those units were produced after the Longstrike was launched. The Longstrike's overall length is slightly longer than the Longshot, so it gets that label now. :)

The paper tie method of securing Nerf blasters in boxes is just a new method of packaging, most of the Nerf blasters launched since mid-2010 are secured using that method.

The Sonic series is just another shell colour variant (nothing related to promoting environmental-friendliness). Other Nerf blasters were already packaged using paper ties before the launch of the Sonic series.

Nerf Longshots are now all sold out in Singapore.

    ReplyDelete
  81. ok.can u gave me the online websites to buy longshot cs-6(yellow)?

    ReplyDelete
  82. bunnyboy ,

Sure... you could still get them from online store sellers, like this example on Amazon.com:

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000ETQR3Q?tag=sgn06-20&camp=213761&creative=393545&linkCode=bpl&creativeASIN=B000ETQR3Q&adid=0TGZWAA6ADAJNB85PV7J&

  83. Hi, can i get updates on whether the longshot will be available for purchase in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Been looking for one lately but it seems like the gun is discontinued. I think. Please email me at billy_limscorpio@msn.com

    ReplyDelete
  84. Billy Lim,

I'm not too familiar with the latest Nerf blaster availability in M'sia (you'll have to ask the M'sian nerfers about that), but from my past few shopping trips in JB and KL, it seems Longshots are all sold out everywhere too.

    ReplyDelete
  85. how long is the main blaster unit?

    ReplyDelete
  86. hi,

Approx. 60cm (or 68cm, with shoulder stock extended).

    ReplyDelete
  87. So, I see that people have asked/talked about changes beyond color with the gun itself.

What I didn't see was talk on the changes to the CLIPS. I think they changed the clips so they come out easier.

Mind you, my experiments are far from scientific, as I do not have a yellow LS and I don't think Hasbro even makes a blue Recon. But I have found that an orange clip in my Recon falls right out with only gravity to help it when I hit the release.

I put that same clip in my LS and it falls out too. The yellow clip doesn't fall out at all in the LS, but will fall a little in the Recon. I think they changed the clips slightly. I've wanted to sit down and take a good look at the differences between the clips.

Also, try sliding the LS scope onto the Recon barrel, then attaching the barrel to the LS body. For additional awesome, add the "laser" sight on the bottom of the barrel.

Also, how many people have/wanted to switch the light in the "laser" sight with an actual laser? Or make a whole new attachment?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Bippwatt,

Well, i have dozens of both the yellow and orange clips from various Longshots and they all fit abit differently, some have a slightly tighter fit, some a slightly looser fit, even amongst the same colored clips.

These are plastic toy parts so i guess it's just the usual manufacturing variations between different production batches.

Btw, frequently used clips will also tend to fit looser as the plastic wears out gradually with usage.

    ReplyDelete
  89. i want to buy a longshot, but i cannot find it anywhere, not even toy r us,can you help me find it at U.S.A please?

its so awesome with a raider drum!

    ReplyDelete
  92. howlingbanshee7,

The Longshot front blaster has a much smaller plunger volume so it's modded performance is abit limited... though with AR removal and stronger spring, around 45-50ft ranges are still possible.

In stock condition, both blaster have similar performance due to their intact air restrictors.

Most likely the bolt lock in your Longshot somehow got mi-aligned or stuck, you'll have to open it to troubleshoot.

The Longstrike was released around the same time when the Longshots started to be sold out, so i guess its seen as a model which was introduced to replace the Longshot on retail shelves.

Mechanically both versions are the same... its only the color scheme that is different.

In addition, the blue version is packaged with 2 clips, while the yellow version is only packaged with 1 clip.

    1. Hong Li,

Blue Longshots have been sold out many years ago and are no longer in production.

Nowadays, you'll have to get them 2nd hand from existing owners, check the various Nerf forums or eBay to find sellers.

  124. Do note that the longshots (zombie strike versions) that you see in the SG stores right now is differently packaged from the original blue or yellow ones. It lacks the detachable blaster in the front.
