Nerf Stampede ECS-50 "Dual Drum Mag" - Production or Concept?

>> Status : - Concept -

Interesting photo found hosted at Hasbro.com...

Production or Concept? :)

--

My theory of how it "might" work:

From the layout of the foam darts as seen through the drum mag's clear panel in the photo, my theory on how it could work is more like a horizontal "S-shaped" ammo feed flow (therefore it'll work quite differently from a Beta C-Mag).

Just imagine all the foam darts lined up in a big continuous horizontal S-shape with only one dart advancement spacer starting from the right-side drum, and both drum springs turning in opposite directions. The foam darts will be "handed over" from the right-side drum to the left-side drum via the rotating drum dart holders and rotated up to the clip feed.

Its just my own theory though... i've not spotted any confirmed info on how it actually works yet.

28th Dec 2010 - Update!

Official sources have confirmed that it was only a concept that was never produced.

Still... i guess its an idea that would have been quite interesting to see in operation. :)

24th March 2011 - Update!

Urban Taggers has spotted a photo from toy hobby website Mouse Droid which showed a photo from the 2011 Australian Toy Fair Nerf booth that had a Nerf Stampede ECS-50 box sitting on a bottom shelf in the back ground, check it out:

5th April 2011 - Update!

Once again, official sources have confirmed that it was still only a concept with no plans for production.

The box on display at the 2011 Australian Toy Fair Nerf booth was just meant to show retailers how the bonus pack looks like, not meant to show the Stampede ECS-50 concept.

  1. i guess the Stampede ECS 50 is really gonna live up to its name..

  2. Whoa, put that on a Recon! That would be hard to wield! I hope this doesn't just come with the Stampede because most of us already got one!

    ReplyDelete
  3. Wow. This is pretty much Nerf's Light Machinegun.

    ReplyDelete
  4. that drum doesnt look like it would work, it looks like it would jam alot but i dont know... ill still get it but yeah

    ReplyDelete
  5. If that turns out to be a real drum I want to mount it on a Barricade.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Wow thats really cool hope to get one of them...

    ReplyDelete
  7. Yes, that is a 50-dart drum.

And the stampede was originally going to be just this. But it never got past concept, and for some reason the uber-drum of death was replaced with the retarded clip. Sorry, but this won;t happen. Merely some old image.

    ReplyDelete
  8. i hope its going to be cheaper than the current stampede if it ever comes out to singapore

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think that ittle work like the raider drum and will go down through theright side and go to the left

    ReplyDelete
  10. i though i came up with a switchable double drum idea before hasbro did. The drums on my mod would be angled precisely to support an LS bipod. There would be a twisting switch to alternate drums. I agree with Batman.

    ReplyDelete
  11. oh my gosh i really want that even though i all ready have the stampede but love the drum all though it really is a photo shop

    ReplyDelete
  12. Well, I personally think it will work too. But you just gotta hope that the Stampede's insert-clip-area's catch won't wear out too fast or the drum might end up dropping out of it.

    Nice discovery SG Nerf.

  13. This was photoshopped of course but it might be a good idea for Hasbro to try and make one. I still dont understand exactly how it would work!

just started my nerf blog today 12/30/10 johnsnerfblog.blogspot.com

  14. omg, they going to have SEVEN in a set, that would of been orgasmicly awesome, but noooooooo that had to go with just three 18 dart mags (awesome, but terrible in comparison)

    ReplyDelete
  15. First of all it is not photo shopped and it was a concept but was never put into reality. this is when we first heard of a stampede ecs-50 but was quickly changed to the stampede ecs. also for most of you newbs who are saying "i wonder how much it costs and im so buying it and when is this coming out?" Problem: IT WILL NEVER COME OUT IN STORES EVER!!!!! that or nerf is really trying to fool us cause i will be mad! I already have a stampede anyway!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I can't tell if it says 7 or 1, but it's just a concept, think how easily it would jam.

    ReplyDelete
  17. this is cool i know its been scrapped but that could mean it'll be released with a new gun still in pruduction and even if it will never be released if it got so far into production that they made a box im sure nerf made a few that could still be floating around and i hope sg nerf gets his hands on one

  18. Could you put a chatroll on this blog like nerfornothing.blogspot.com?

    ReplyDelete
  19. Hey, could you please post my blog in the Nerf Links? the link is http://www.dartblasters.blogspot.com

    ReplyDelete
  20. It's official!

This was the original concept for the stampede, but it never worked out. This is where the name ECS-50 came from, but when it didn't work, they changed it to the ECS.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think a 50 dart mag would be awesome! But it isn't fair how they've already released the Stampede but now they're changing it to a better mag. If someone told me this would have happened, I would have waited until now. They should have put the mag in a separate pack like the bandolier clip.

    ReplyDelete
  22. A 50-dart mag would be awesome! It's just not fair how they've already released the Stampede and all of us bought it already. If someone told me that this would come out, I would have waited. They should just put a whole different pack with like 3 of the 50-dart drums.

    ReplyDelete
  23. it will come out because the one where they tell you how many darts
on the front(like how they said x50 darts and x1 clip) is a fairly new thing nerf added this 2011 year

    ReplyDelete
  24. they probably would do that because its a electric gun but i also wonder if you could buy the drum mag separately

    ReplyDelete
  25. they probably would make that because it is a full auto gun but a bunch of people have already got the stampede so i wonder if they will make it so you can buy the drum mag separately though they never did that with the raider

    ReplyDelete
  26. Looks cool, but it sucks it will never make it into production. For those of you who are still waiting for it, go and check out my blog to kill some time. It's located at: wwww.nerfstuffisawesome.blogspot.com . I highly recommend you check out my new Magstrike review, complete with full fire test video!

  27. Well all the photos on the boxes are photoshop.

So we will really never know. :)

  28. And then I'm owner of Br Nerf and wanted to partner with you .....

  29. nerfinaticRN7,

No chatroll for this blog site.

I did try it out for a short while but lots of users abused it by spamming the chat with obscenities and crude remarks, and arguments kept erupting between chat users.

It was more annoying then helpful.. so i decided not to use it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  30. woo wee wow a 50 dart drum!
obviously it should be in production
probably around this year or the next.
it is most likely gonna come out
due to the airzone brand having the lead of the biggest dart capacity of probably all brands by 48 darts.
nerf is the leading brand in sales
so probably, yes it would come out soon. i cant wait lol
and FYI, u ALL noobs and i IS better

    ReplyDelete
  31. just...just WHY?! why did they do this to me?! I bought a stampede, and now they have a huge drum mag one come out NOW?! *starts crying* Now I gotta buy another one?!?! agh, still, cool. cannot wait to see this! that mag is just...OVER THE TOP AWESOME. 50 rounds (probably more if you force it), FOR a stampede! it has offcially become the light machine gun of Nerf; good job! just imagine like commercial, dual wielding those!! that would be...BEAUTIFUL. so worth burning the money for.

    ReplyDelete
  32. it would be awesome but since like almost everyone has a stampede it would suck,do u know with the raider drum it gets in the way if ur right handed if ur left handed its not in the way so then the duel drum mag will be in the way for left and right handed people

    ReplyDelete
  33. wouldn't be great if nerf released that, the changing direction of the load on the coil spring might have caused unreliability (although considering that I am always wrong, probably not) or it may have just been too complex to produce (if it was like the beta-c mag)

you never know why they didn't produce it, but the only reasons that make sense are: it was unreliable, or to complex, or they were planing to release it later, in a different set, to make more money.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Even though this was a concept, they probably had to make at least a couple prototypes to test out. I wonder if it would be possible for somebody to acquire one of those

    ReplyDelete
  35. nerfs second LMG! this would be cool, and worth a lot of money if you could get one of these prototypes, (well... if they never put these into production)!

    ReplyDelete
  36. SG Nerf,
Could you put a link to my site on your's, I now have a link to your's on mine.

    ReplyDelete
  37. sgnerf, are the nerf raider darts are streamline?

    ReplyDelete
  38. nerfboyz.com,

Sure, i've added your site to my Nerf Links box.

    ReplyDelete
  39. wat battery did i need to put in the recon cs6 beam light?AA battery or AAA battery

    ReplyDelete
  40. Eric,

The Nerf Recon's red-dot targeter requires 2 x AAA batteries to operate.

    ReplyDelete
  41. is this only in singapore or is it gonna be in the usa too?

    ReplyDelete
  42. thomaswligon,

As mentioned in the latest update info... it was only a concept that was never produced.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm sure a clever modder can come up with a version of this by fusing two of the drum clips somehow using the 18 Dart Drum or the 35 Dart Drum

    ReplyDelete
  44. actually there probably a few out there. usually in order for the concept to be taken to a box design at least a handful are custom chopped so to speak and tested. although they were not mass produced there is probably a couple "beta testers" out there with a drum or two.

    ReplyDelete
  45. tee600,

I agree, it would be cool to get hold of one of the prototypes or pre-production units to try out. :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. its real our friends at urban taggers have toy fair photo confirmation check it out:

    http://urbantaggers.blogspot.com/2011/03/and-in-case-you-missed-it-50-round-drum.html

    ReplyDelete
  47. Madridson2,

I saw that too and i'm checking with my sources at Hasbro about it now.

Until they confirm it, there is no actual product confirmation so far... other than just cool box art.

    Stay tuned. :)

  48. do u know anything about the australian toy fair. i ask this because of the 2nd photo. i do know that this is sgnerf

    ReplyDelete
  49. Steven,

Sure, thats an annual trade fair for the australian toy industry. There are similiar trade fairs like that in other countries.

    ReplyDelete
  50. IS there something new about the %0 sart double drum?

    ReplyDelete
  51. Richard,

I've updated this blog post about the 50-dart drum magazine, its still just a concept with no plans for production.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Is it possible to custom make a Double Drum?

    ReplyDelete
  53. Richard,

Sure, anything is possible to custom make, just depends if one has enough skill, time and patience to make them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. Definitely a Photoshop, the box was a remake of the Stampede ECS special value box which came with 100 darts, and the drum looks like two 35 drums morphed together and some of the pics on it like the x50 dart sign you can see it was a fake.

    ReplyDelete
  55. too bad its only a concept.
NERF NEEDS TO MAKE THIS THING REAL!!!!!!!
CAUSE IT WOULD BE TOTALLY FRICKIN AWESOME!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. i think im going to find a way to make one my self out of alpha trooper drums and i might post it on youtube i allready hav the clips i just need to design i will keep u posted on when i make it or if i can make it my user on youtube is senatortim

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm fairly certain that at least one (probably more) prototypes were completed. The old banners over the Nerf blasters at Target showed a side view of the Stampede with the drum on it, and it was clearly an actual photograph (the darts are somewhat unevenly loaded). I posted a picture of it a while back on the Nerf Wiki site: http://nerf.wikia.com/wiki/Fifty_dart_drum
