Nerf Firefly REV-8 - Review!

The Nerf Firefly REV-8 is one of the more unique models in the Nerf N-Strike range.

This model has the ability to fire special Nerf glow-in-the-dark micro foam darts. It does this by activating a flash burst in the transparent barrel during the firing process to "charge" the foam darts.

Fire it in a low-light area and the lightning effect looks quite cool!

Average stock firing range is around 25-30ft.

  1. Just load the foam darts into the individual barrel ports, pull the trigger to auto-advance the barrel to access all the ports. :)

  6. Hey, just wondering, Where can i get Nerf Firefly in Singapore? Anywhere selling it?

    ReplyDelete
  7. The Nerf Firefly is currently still not avaliable in Singapore dept stores.

They used to be sold in Malaysia dept stores a while back, but none have be spotted there lately.

You could check the dept stores if you happen to take a trip across to JB.

  11. No news of that avaliable in singapore yet, do check the NerfSG forum trading section, there might be local members there who might be willing to sell one.

  12. Do you thing this is better then a recon?

    ReplyDelete
  13. Joeri,

    Well, I can't say it's better, just different. Performance-wise it's similiar to a Recon.

The Firefly's main feature is it's glow-in-the-dark foam darts and flash. I guess most people get it for that feature, and for it's futuristic design too.

  14. firefly is held like a p90 sub machinegun isnt it? but it looks really cool jus where can i get one?

  15. FinBrian,

Nerf Fireflys can usually be found at dept stores or toy stores. You can also check at online stores too.

  16. Does the Nerf Firefly shoot farther than the Hyperfire?

    ReplyDelete
  17. ???,

From testing multiple units, both blaster models have around similiar range.

Any range differences are probably due to individual unit variations.

    ReplyDelete
  18. does this gun have a direct plunger system

    ReplyDelete
  19. would a modded firefly get the same range as a nite finder with the same mods

    ReplyDelete
  20. playstationwiisixty,

Well, Nite Finders are single fire blasters with a fully air tight seal between the plunger and barrel, so their modded performance are naturally better.

Fireflys use a rotating barrel setup so there is a less efficient air seal between the plunger and rotating barrels, so naturally with equivalent mods, range improvements would be less significant.

    ReplyDelete
  21. what if i increased the air seal would it shoot as far as a nite finder

    ReplyDelete
  22. playstationwiisixty,

In theory, if you can get a 100% airtight plunger to barrel air seal on the Firefly like in the Nite Finder, it should be able to display similar range improvements.

    ReplyDelete
  23. How much range would an AR removal add (including totally removing the the dart plate) also, does streching the spring actually help?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oscar,

With those mods, you should get at least around an additional 10-15ft of range.

    ReplyDelete
  25. jackiehuang7722,

In original stock condition, the Firefly has a parallel-to-ground effective range of around 25-30ft.

To achieve 40ft you'll have to either fire it at a higher angle (like a catapult), which is not considered parallel-to-ground effective range... or mod it to get actual better performance.

    ReplyDelete
  26. how far does firefly shoot with sonic micro darts in stright?

    ReplyDelete
  27. jackiehuang7722,

Average parallel-to-ground stock range with Sonic Micro foam darts is around 25-30ft.

    ReplyDelete
  28. what! i thought suppose to shoot 35-40 in stright?

    ReplyDelete
  29. and also are firefly is the strongest nerf gun?

    ReplyDelete
  30. can it shoot more far than everything except the titan?

    ReplyDelete
  31. how does firefly has bad range,is the blaster fault or the glow darts fault? please comment only one at a time

    ReplyDelete
  32. jackiehuang7722,

Where did you read that a stock Nerf Firefly can fire to 35-40ft range?

If you read it from other reviewers, i can say they are basically posting exaggerated claims and misleading information.

Most likely those reviewers fire their blaster at a high angle (ie. lob shot, like a catapult) and then measure the range from there... any Nerf blaster can also achieve further range if fired that way, but its not a proper way of measuring actual effective range.

I have tested dozens of stock Firefly units to know that their average stock range is around 25-30ft, its designed that way, same as most stock Nerf blasters.

Of course, after they are modded, then thats where additional range can be achieved.

Btw, blogger comments are positioned according to date and time, so next time please put all your queries in just one comment. Less clutter.

  33. can i use dart tagger for nerf firefly rev-8 ?

    ReplyDelete
  34. what is the strongest nerf gun?

    ReplyDelete
  35. abdurrahman,

Yes, tagger foam darts can be used in the Firefly, but they would need to be trimmed abit shorter to fit properly into the blaster's shorter barrels.

    ReplyDelete
  36. jackiehuang7722,

At this moment, in stock condition, the Nerf blaster that has the longest range is the Nerf Titan at 60ft (though it uses foam missiles and you'll have to spend effort to pump it up sufficiently)... all the other current stock Nerf blaster models usually have the more common 25-35ft range (+/- a few ft here and there).

    ReplyDelete
  37. how come most people said firefly has bad range,is the blaster fault,or the dart fault?

    ReplyDelete
  38. jackiehuang7722,

If a stock Nerf Firefly achieves less than 15-20ft in range, then most likely its a faulty unit (best to exchange those units at the store for a new working one).

But if a stock unit can average 25-30ft, then it can be considered normal, as that's the range its originally designed to achieve, like most current Nerf blaster models.

    ReplyDelete
  39. is the firefly the second strongest nerf gun?

    ReplyDelete
  40. jackiehuang7722,

Well, in stock condition it is restricted to around the same power and range as most of the other current Nerf blaster models.

After modding, i'd rate it as above average in terms of power and range, definitely better than the reverse plunger blasters like Recons or Longstrikes... but still not as good as blasters with larger direct plungers like Longshots and Stampedes.

    ReplyDelete
  41. what place is firefly on? (also show me every nerf guns)

    ReplyDelete
  42. jackiehuang7722,

Well, in terms of modded range potential amongst current spring-powered Nerf blasters, from my experience so far when they have equivalent mods done (in descending order of top 5):

    1) Longshot
    2) Big Bad Bow
    3) Stampede
    4) Nite Finder or Stormfire
    5) Firefly

I would rank all other current Nerf blaster models below the Firefly in terms of modded potential.

You will notice at all the blasters in my top 5 list use direct plunger systems.

Note that although power and range is one factor, you also have to see the rate-of-fire and the ammo capacity.

No point having a blaster that can shoot far when it takes time to reload and cannot store much ammo. :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. the nite finder is only better than firefly is the range, the rest of them is the firefly better, also the firefly's range is great too.

    ReplyDelete
  44. jackiehuang7722,

Yes, i rate the blasters in my list according to modded range potential.

But if you were to factor in rate-of-fire and ammo capacity too, then the Firefly would be more effective in Nerf games.

Then again, might as well just get a Stampede, its high rate-of-fire and clip-fed ammo capacity combine to out perform all of the other blasters in the majority of Nerf game scenarios. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. how about without modded, what place is firefly at? (also show me every nerf guns because i want to see which the strongest and the weakest)

    ReplyDelete
  46. jackiehuang7722,

Without modding and in stock condition, the list is still the same, in fact they can't be ranked based on range anymore because all of them are restricted to the same average 25-35ft ranges... just a few ft difference, not significant or consistent enough to compare.

Note that in stock condition, even 2 of the exact same blasters can have different performance due to variations in manufacturing and quality control from the factory.

For example, one stock Longshot can achieve 35ft range while another stock Longshot somehow only achieves 25ft... it depends on luck whether you get a good or not-so-good unit. Same thing applies to stock Fireflys too.

    ReplyDelete
  47. jackiehuang7722,

Yes, its tactical rail is situated just in front of the priming handle.

    ReplyDelete
  48. my friend have maverick and it shoot little farther than my firefly. how come?

    ReplyDelete
  49. jackiehuang7722,

Nerf blasters are toys and there are manufacturing variations between each blaster unit (even within the same production batch), so there can also be noticeable differences in performance between individual units.

So when you buy Nerf blasters, whether you get a good unit (or not-so-good unit) depends abit on luck too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Which one suppose to shoot farther? maverick or firefly?

    ReplyDelete
  51. jackiehuang7722,

I've tested multiple sets of both blasters and they usually have the similiar average range of around 25-30ft. Neither have a distinctive range difference over the other.

Any range differences that users encounter are simply manufacturing variations in individual units. Like I mentioned, it depends on your luck. :)

    ReplyDelete
  52. can firefly use streamline darts to shoot farther than every clip system guns?

    ReplyDelete
  53. jackiehuang7722,

Well, so far i've not noticed much difference in range when using Streamline foam darts (to me, +/- a few ft is quite insignificant).

    ReplyDelete
  54. try it,if firefly with streamline dart shoot farther than every clip system guns,i will buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  55. jackiehuang7722,

I've already tested and i already mentioned in my previous reply that i didn't find any significant or reliable range difference when using Streamline foam darts? Do you understand?

And please stop posting your repeated annoying "which shoots further" questions, 'cos the difference in range between each stock blaster is only just a few feet here and there, and it varies between individual blaster units.

  57. wyerocky,

    Check this list:

    http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/03/latest-nerf-store-stock.html

If any blaster is not on that list, means it is either not available or sold out at local dept stores in Singapore.
