Nerf Magstrike - Review!

Introducing the Nerf Magstrike!

The Nerf Magstrike is the fastest-firing model in the Nerf Dart Tag range. If you play Dart Tag, this is the model to get.

It boasts an incredible rate of fire, 5 rounds per second or 300 rounds per minute! The Magstrike comes with 2 x 10 round clips. In practice, you can send 10 foam darts flying at an opponent before he can even fire off his second shot!

The firing mechanism is based on compressing air into its storage chamber (similar to a paintball gun) via a pump handle. It takes around 20+ quick pumps to fully prime the Magstrike.

The 10 round clips are ratchet driven so when the Magstrike fires, the clip is pushed up the gun and compressed air is released in sequence to fire off all 10 foam darts in under 2 seconds. You can also fire 2-3 shot bursts with just a light tap on the trigger.

The percussion sounds the Magstrike makes during firing is quite addictive, almost like mini explosions. This really adds to the appeal of the Magstrike!

The Magstrike comes in 2 colors: Red and Blue.

  1. Is the nerf magstrike available in singapore?

  2. Magstrikes are currently not avaliable at stores in SG.

The only way to get them nowadays are either to order from overseas, or perhaps checking the NerfSG forums to see if anyone there is willing to sell a unit. :)

  3. A good tactic with this is being Dual-Wielding and find a good cover. Then, just fill the enemy's face with bullets!

    ReplyDelete
  4. Actually, the best possible tactic with the Magstrike is to combine it with a riot shield. Unfortunately, the sheer ROF of this weapon is offset by short range and the sad fact that once you've shot, you're vulnerable.

The Riot Shield allows you to get in close with the enemy safely, dump all your ammo into 'em, then retreat. I personally use a LARP roman tower shield...makes room-clearing a breeze.

  5. has there been any news of a magstrike to be released in singapore?

    ReplyDelete
  6. No news yet, but you can check the NerfSG forum trading section, there are usually local members there with Magstrikes avaliable for sale.

  7. this gun looks cool! I'm going to buy it! Thank for the review!

  8. which way did you buy it?3rd party shipping or fixed landed price?which is cheaper?

    ReplyDelete
  9. weaponhazard,

It depends on the item. 3rd party shipping can sometimes be cheaper if you are ordering a larger quantity of items (especially when there are promotions on), but there is the risk of not knowing for sure the actual final shipping cost.

Nowadays i usually go for the Tarazz fixed-landed-pricing service 'cos it helps to reduce the guesswork when ordering items online, but do note that they will still call later and add extra shipping costs if the item's volumetric weight exceeds 5kg.

It'll be best to contact them beforehand to confirm the item shipping costs before submitting your orders.

    ReplyDelete
  10. right..which way would you reccomend me that is cheaper?and what's the price you paid for the red magstrike dart tag?

    ReplyDelete
  11. weaponhazard,

At this moment, ordering through Tarazz is probably better.

Pricing depends on the online merchant's pricing and on the timing of the order.

At this point in time, you should be able to get USA-SG shipped sets at around SGD$60-$70 each (or maybe even less) if the online prices are good.

  12. does the magstrike fire all the darts at once or could it fire at semi auto?

    ReplyDelete
  13. weaponhazard,

The Magstrike can fire 2-3 shot bursts by just briefly pulling the trigger to control the shots fired.

Its possible to control the trigger to just fire 1 shot bursts, but that'll require some practice. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. right..practice makes perfect, you seem to master it,i saw you using the iron man magstrike in the nerf war video lol

  15. hey sg nerf,
i found a store that had a ton of titan and magstrikes but i only have enough money to buy one so which one should i get first

    ReplyDelete
  16. playstationwiisixty,

It'll all depend on what you'll be using them for.

For nerf games, the Magstrike would be a more useful blaster overall.

But if the Titan you are referring to is the Nerf Unity Power System (ie. Titan + Hornet + Scout), then that'll be a good package to get 'cos it has a few blasters in one set which can be used together or seperately.

    ReplyDelete
  17. on my last comment i was refering to the standalone titan set (without the scout and hornet) but i think i'll get the magstrike first because there was only a few of them and there was literally an entire shelf of titans :)
    thnx for the previos answer

  18. Does the Magstrike which is sold without the Dart Tag gear(Like the Iron Man Magstrike or the yellow one) come with 2 clips or just 1?

P.S. SG Nerf, as weaponhazard said'i saw you using the iron man magstrike in the nerf war video lol'
Can I know what's your youtube ID? I wanna watch your vids. Others are just either bad or fake.

  19. Nerf Meagafan,

The Nerf Dart Tag Magstrike versions are packaged with 2 clips.

The Nerf Iron Man & N-Strike versions are packaged with only 1 clip.

  21. Beau,

For the Dart Tag Magstrikes, they were ordered from Amazon.com and shipped to SG via a 3rd party shipper.

    ReplyDelete
  22. how much did the shipping cost?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Beau,

USA to SG shipping cost depends on the size of the delivery box and the prevailing shipping rates.

You'll have to check at the 3rd party shipper sites for more information:

  24. Do these magstrikes break easily? I am referring to all the magstrike variants ( iron man, n-strike and dart tag magstrike versions ) I've read reviews on amazon saying that the guns' stop working after a day or even after a few shots! Is this really true or certain are magstrikes ( of any kind ) are defected? Are your magstrike units still working? Also, do you have any idea on how to fix a broken magstrike? ( As in those which have clips that don't advance upwards when firing or magstrikes with air leaks ) Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Ryan =],

As with all Nerf blasters... it all depends on luck.

So far, all of the Magstrikes i have (Dart Tag, Iron Man and N-Strike versions) are still working perfectly, even after modding.

Those users that were unlucky enough to get faulty ones could have simply exchanged them at the store for a new working unit.

Magstrikes with faulty or broken components can be fixed, just need to spend time to troubleshoot them step by step.

  26. I plan on getting one of the dart tag ver., but I heard someone said that the air chamber for the Dart Tag ver. Magstrikes are less durable than N-Strike ver. Do you have N E mods, maby 2 strengthen the air chamber?

    ReplyDelete
  27. Musta,

So far i've had no issues with the strength or durability of air systems in both the the Dart Tag and N-Strike Magstrikes, so i never had to strengthen anything.

I guess you just have to make sure that any Magstrikes you get have 100% air tight system in the first place, then you'll have good firing performance.

    ReplyDelete
  28. How rare is this blaster? Cuz I wanna get one, but it's nowhere to be found. I'm gonna go check at Genting this Christmas. It's RM99.90, isn't it, SGNerf?

    ReplyDelete
  29. Musta,

To my knowledge, only the Iron Man versions were available for a very short time at local dept stores.

So far no more stock of those have been spotted since last year.

Nowadays, the only way to get them are from online stores overseas, eBay or Nerf forums.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What's the pump limit?

    eg.: Secret Strike AS-1 : 7 pumps

    ReplyDelete
  31. Musta,

As mentioned in the review, 20+ pumps before the over-pressure valve activates.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I got the new yellow version of the magstrike and when i get to the tenth cylinder of the mag the dart shoots atleast half the distance of the other darts.

Did you have the same trouble as I did?
Is there any way to fix it?

    ReplyDelete
  33. seaverwc,

Every shot should have the same power and range.

If a particular barrel is under-performing, it could be due to a air leak in the system which runs out the air supply too quickly (you'll need to do an underwater test to find the leak then patch it), or the air seal in that particular barrel is too loose (try adding some tape to the inside of the barrel to create a tighter fit for the foam dart).

  34. Sg Nerf..
Is the Magstrike the fastest firing Nerf blaster??

If not... Then which Nerf blaster??

    ReplyDelete
  35. Nerf IsReallycool,

Well, in terms of rate-of-fire (RoF) in stock unmodded condition, the Magstrike and Rapid Fire 20 (and the older Powerclip and Wildfire) can achieve up to 5 shots per second, which makes them the highest RoF blasters in the current Nerf blaster range... at this point in time.

    ReplyDelete
  36. just picked up the n-strike version the other day, anywhere i can get more clips?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Chris,

Unfortunately for Magstrikes, their clips are not available separately.

  40. well does it sell magstrikes to day? if not why sg does not sell it?

    ReplyDelete
  41. endry,

Nerf stock varies from country to country, it just depends on model distribution.

The Nerf Magstrike Dart Tag versions were not sold in Singapore, but the Iron Man version was available in Singapore back in 2008-2009. No more in stock now though.

I ordered my Dart Tag Magstrikes from overseas online stores and through trading with other nerf enthusiasts.

    2. how do I get them to ship items/blasters to Asia/Singapore
and how do i get third party shipping to send the blasters over?

      Delete
    3. Shane Lim,

If the overseas or online seller does not ship internationally, you'll have to use a 3rd party USA to Singapore shipper like vPost.

      Here is their website link:

      https://www.vpost.com.sg

You will need to register a customer account with them and follow their instructions on how to use the service.

Note that your final shipping charges may be higher than expected due to the way such shipping services calculate the package "weight". They measure using volumetric weight (ie. size of the delivery box), instead of the actual weight of the item.

1.where can i buy the -long shot

3.is the long shot still on shelves at toysrus?

4.If any of the blasters i mentioned are not available in Singapore what websites other than amazon and ebay can i order the first hand unused from ny other website at if so which websites?

    1. Shane Lim,

      1. None of those blaster models you mentioned are currently available locally (the strikefire/crossfire used to be in stock, but are very old models and have already been sold out quite a while back).

      2. The "special value" blasters you mentioned are also not available locally too, those tend to be only exclusive to certain stores in the USA (though its possible on occasion that some of them do pop up in local dept stores in limited quantities, but you'll have to keep checking at stores to find out).

      3. Longshots should still be available in local stores, but you may have to shop around to find them nowadays, as they seem to be starting to get sold out at some places.

      4. You could try other online stores in the USA like walmart.com or target.com.

    4. Shane Lim,

I guess you can check online for other overseas stores, but the same method applies... if they don't ship internationally, you'll have to find a 3rd party shipper which does.

As for local sellers, you could try checking the NerfSG forum trading section, occasionally there might be sellers there with used ones for sale:

      http://nerfsg.freeforums.org/marketplace-buy-sell-trade-mass-order-f7.html

Note that you will need to have a forum user account to access that section.

    1. Anonymous,

Most likely a tubing or the air bladder inside the blaster has somehow burst or got a leak (or something got stuck), you will need to open it up to check and fix.

To find leaks, open up the casing, immerse it in a tub of water, pump it up and observe where the water bubble leak out from, then patch those leaks with epoxy glue.

Okay, your pump is probably faulty or damaged... you'll have to replace it with a new pump, or just buy a new Magstrike unit (save the hassle).
