The Nerf Vulcan is the newest and largest fully automatic Nerf gun. It accomplishes this feat by operating via an automatic belt-fed ammo system (similar to a GPMG). The firing rate is a constant 3 rounds per second or 180 rounds per minute!
The firing mechanism is powered by a piston powered internal launching system, and uses 6 x "D" sized Batteries.
It comes with 1 x 25 dart belt with 25 sonic darts, and a removable tripod. You can purchase additional belts and darts too.
Average stock range is around 25-30ft.
There is an alternative box version called the Vulcan VP (Value Pack) which includes 2 x 25 dart belt and a special weapon sling.

Hi my friend jerry thinks about vulcans like carzy, he sorta buyin 1 and does the belt jam while feeding through while firing?
ReplyDeleteBelts jams usually occur due to users not loading the darts fully, putting too much weight on the belt or placing the belt wrongly etc.

Hey, I was looking into this gun and may people said it jams easily or breaks in a few days. Do you think this a product flaw on certain manufacters around the world or is it what u said about loading the belt?

ReplyDeleteIts possible, but i'd guess it'll require alot of modding and custom work to transplant the Vulcan's internal mechanism into blasters like the Longshot or Recon.
Perhaps you can give it a try, other modders will definitely be very keen to learn how to do it if you're successful with such a mod. :)

I've tested them out before, but was never keen enough to get one to do a review. Perhaps i might soon. :)

ReplyDeleteSprings that can fit the Nite Finder or Stampede would be suitable for the Vulcan as their plungers are all similar size.
Just an idea: If you put a (wye style)hopper clip on a vulcan, wouldn't you get good ranges cause of the reasonable plunger size?

ReplyDeleteUsing hopper clips on a Vulcan could work, you'd just need to mod it to fit.
The Vulcan's plunger size is similar to the Nite Finder so it should get similar range with equivalent mods done.
There is a fair bit of dead space in hopper clips though, so range would be reduced compared to using conventional ammo belts.
Ah, there is a moving bolt thingie, right? how about making a small brass breech for steffans? there must be some way to make it wave som more range!

ReplyDeleteFrom what I know, the Vulcan can really fire up to 3 darts per second. If it doesn't, either change the batteries or change the gun. I estimate that it could only reach like 7-13 meters. I'm not sure if the range of auto and manual is the same or not(cuz I don't own one.....yet). But what I know is that it fires in a three combo. Meaning, that the first dart it fires, will have the longest range, the second dart will have less range(probably less by 1-4 feet?)The third dart is the worst. Guess what? Only around 10 feet. After that, it'll fire the longest range again. After that, the second longest finally, the shortest range. And so on and so on.......
ReplyDeleteWhat I don't like about this gun is that the belts are slow to reload so when you're going into battle with only 1 belt, bring a Maverick or Firefly(because both are light and good). The belts are also a bit hard to place in to the turning gear thingy because it might slip off. And, its freaking heavy. at least 3kg(batteries in it).
Plus, the ammo box is more of a hindrance than help. When the belt is hanging down, it looks cooler. And, the box gets i the way because you have to completely fit the belt inside it properly.

ReplyDeleteA properly working Vulcan will fire all it's foam darts to the same range.
If foam darts are firing to varying ranges from a Vulcan, it means that Vulcan unit is faulty and should be exchanged for a new working unit at the store.
I dunno about that. Anyway, I'm not the not the one owning that Vulcan. Besides, even if the guy wanted to change it, he'll have to go to KL(M'sia) to change it(he bought it from there).Our city is small and only has like 5 types of Nerf guns which is being sold. Plus it's damn expensive. The funny thing is, that a Mart(as Americans will call it) sells Vulcan belts but no Vulcan. Streamline darts and clips but no guns which can shoot it.

ReplyDeleteThe internal direct plunger and firing mechanism of a Vulcan is similar to a Stampede, so with some adjustments, the same modding procedures can be used too.

Hey, I just bought a vulcan. However, whenever I switch to auto fire mode, the bullets don't jam at all. When I switch to single fire mode, the bullet always jam (i made sure the bullets were completely inside the ammo belt). Sometimes the thing in single fire mode is kinda hard to pull back as there is no support to hold on to the gun.

ReplyDeleteIt seems like your Vulcan probably has a faulty single fire mechanism. Single fire mode in Vulcans should operate smoothly without any jamming issues.
I'd advise you to simply return it to the store and exchange for a new working unit.

ReplyDeleteWondering about the Tripod for the Vulcan, is it Tactical Rail compatable? I have a Longstrike, and very suprised that that the Sniper Rifle didn't come with some kind of tripod or stand (like the longshot) Since you can get a replacement tripod through Nerf as a spare part.

ReplyDeleteNope, by default the Vulcan's tripod is not compatible with N-Strike tactical rails.
You could mod it to fit though, just add a tactical rail clip component to the tripod so that it can clip onto tactical rails.

ReplyDelete"I purchased this for my sons birthday. He is the youngest of 4 boys and they all like to play nerf dart wars. We were hoping that the machine gun would be a lot of fun, and he was hoping for 'flare and more of a fighting chance'. The gun worked fabulously for the first afternoon and evening. If I completed the review within the first 24 hours it would have been five stars. All of the boys loved it. Early the second day the gearing mechanism started failing to advance the belt and load the next "round". In addition, I noticed the cylinder that releases the compressed air and provides the energy to launch the nerf bullet was jammed and didn't return to recessed position. The cylinder must recess to allow advancing of ammo belt. I suspect it was the jamming of the compression chamber cylinder that caused belt advancement gear failure. I tried disassembling the gun to examine what was causing the jam. I learned there was no disassembling and the only choice was to completely break several plastic welds to learn what caused the issue.
Summary, a great gun for about 500 shots after that the manufacturing materials and quality of assembly failed at it is now in the dumpster for recycling."
Is this true? I fear if I spend RM209.90 one day on one I would get one of those things called 'Junk'. God it's expensive.

ReplyDeleteWell, it all depends on luck.
I have Vulcans which have been used for the past 2+ years and fired thousands of shots and they are all still working fine... while i also have Vulcans which fired a a few dozen belts and broke within a few weeks. So it depends on how lucky you are.
These are plastic toys with mechanical components which will wear out over time, so they would eventually break one day, you can't expect them to last forever anyways.
Is the Tripod compatible to other nerf balsters?

I guess you'll just have to search online to find them (if they are still available).
hey sg nerf. i need a semi/full auto rifle. i was thinking of the stampede, vulcan or nitron. the rifle must not jam much and be very light. it should also have a good rate of fire, range and the darts must hurt. it should also have loads of ammo and with many tactical attachments. it should also be able to be strong and long lasting. i apologise for the long list of demands but i need a really pro guy like u to help me. price is not an issue. pls help me cause u are the most brilliant nerf expert in the world. loads of thanks in advance :P

ReplyDeleteYes, there are Nerf Vulcan Ammo Belt Refill sets available at dept stores.
They are stand-alone 25-dart ammo belts though, in stock condition they do not link together.
It is still possible to mod the ammo belts to link together, check my guide on how to do it:

Note that my ammo belt mod is based on the older version of the ammo belts, the newer versions may need a slightly different technique to link together.

I guess the newer production batches don't include it because it's not required, or already attached.

DeleteThe barrel can't be removed (unless you mod it).
The average stock ranges are around 25-30ft.
As mentioned in my review, it's rate-of-fire is around 3 shots per second (depending on the quality of the batteries used).

DeleteIts possible to use most Nerf foam darts in the Vulcan... but Streamline foam darts might have some compatibility issues with the ammo belts due to their longer internal tip stems.
A method to solve this is simply to remove the dart pegs in the ammo belt shells.

DeleteGet the Stampede, it is made to be shoulder aimed and fired, and its a motorized full-auto blaster that comes packaged with many clips and ammo. So your overall maneuverability, rate-of-fire and ammo capacity is much higher.
The Rampage can be a good choice too, it is designed to get better ranges in stock condition but still uses a manual priming system though.

You can clearly see the loop points on top of the blaster at the front (orange loop point) and at the back (yellow loop point), just clip on your sling at those 2 points.

DeleteWell, i've tested multiple units of the 4 versions of the Vulcan (yellow, red, clear and sonic) and from my tests so far, on the average they all get similiar stock range performance... the +/- few feet variation between them (which varies between each shot anyways) isn't really significant enough to prove that one version is actually better than another.
Any range difference is usually just due to production variations between individual units, not based on the version or series... so it just depends on luck whether you get a good unit or not. :)

DeleteI've got and tested an Airzone Punisher before, but sold it off shortly... its a flywheel blaster and i'm personally not a fan of those kind of systems.
Its range is okay, but it lacks the tactile feel of a spring plunger blaster, reminds me of a portable vacuum cleaner with the constant buzzing noise of its flywheels.
I guess some might like it, some don't.
Btw, the rotating barrels are fake, they just spin around to simulate the effect, but the shots only actually fire out though the faux barrel in the middle.
