This is the latest blaster to be added to the Nerf N-Strike range, it follows the design principles of the Nerf Longshot and Recon, but adds on even more features and capabilities.
The Raider is a magazine-fed blaster with a spring powered reverse plunger system. It uses a pump action priming mechanism via a front grip handle.
It comes with a 35-dart drum magazine (along with 35 Streamline foam darts), this is perhaps the first time such a magazine system has been created for a Nerf blaster and it provides incredible ammo capacity. Yes, this drum magazine is also compatible with the Nerf Longshot and Recon too!
In addition, the Raider also comes with a unique firing feature called the "Slam Fire" mode. This new firing mode works like this: Hold down the trigger, then pump the front grip repeatedly to fire a constant stream of foam darts, the rate-of-fire (RoF) will depend on how fast you pump the front grip.
With some practice, firing tests have shown that it is possible to achieve a steady RoF of up to 2-3 shots per second! The Raider's average firing range is approx. 25-30 ft, around the same as a stock Longshot or Recon.
By combining the awesome 35-dart drum magazine and the new "Slam Fire" mode, the Nerf Raider allows equipped players to outshoot and outlast their opponents in fast-paced close-quarter Nerf games!

For the Titan, so far i've not spotted any in M'sia yet. So you'd probably have to order it from overseas.
Thanks for the reply, I managed to get my hands on a set of the Furyfire and Raider. I must say the build quality for both has somewhat improved. Still having some problems finding for the Powerclip DX1000, Magstrike and Titan.

ReplyDeleteWell, from my experience so far, i've fired around 30+ full drum magazines of darts from my Raider during nerf games and only encountered a jam once.

ReplyDeleteThe only way to fix that is to dis-assemble the casing, adjust the front handle mechanism back to normal position, then assemble back the casing.
ReplyDeleteNever mind, figured out that I didn't have the clip connector all the way in, which I guess they put it in like a safety so you won't break the gun or anything.

So you'll either have to buy another Raider, or perhaps purchase drum magazines seperately from other Nerf Raider owners.

I just bought a raider today in Australia but there is something that has been bugging me, when i first tried the gun in single fire mode when i cock the raider the pump handle it stayed at the top of the gun and i could fire it with one hand on the trigger instead of one hand on the handle and the other hand on the trigger. Now when i use it i have to push the handle so it stays still so i can fire the gun in single fire mode

ReplyDeleteSounds like the Raider you just got has a fault in the trigger or bolt lock mechanism. You could open up the casing and try to see if you can troubleshoot it.
But since you just bought it, it'll be much easier to just return back to the store and exchange it for a new set.

ReplyDeleteThats the tricky bit... such issues can be from many different causes.
If you want to attempt to troubleshoot the issue, open up the casing and look at the parts that are linked to the priming bar and trigger mechanism.
Prime it with the casing open (remove the spring beforehand for easier testing), and observe how the mechanism moves, then spot which part is blocking the firing process.
Try adjusting the parts and keep testing until the issue is solved.

ReplyDeleteIt could be due to inconsistant foam dart seal within the bolt, a loose dart to bolt seal tends to decrease firing performance for certain foam darts.
Either that or some of the foam darts you are using have been damaged. Check them and make sure you use the good ones.
Well I only got mine a few hours ago and only fire 4 full drums. I also just checked my darts and only two have any possible leaks where the tip and the body meet.

ReplyDeleteWhen i mention dart to bolt seal, i refer to high tightly the foam darts slot into the bolt during the chambering process. If the seal is loose, air would leak out around the sides and reduce performance.
It could be an issue with the bolt seal, foam darts... or a combination of other issues which you'll have to troubleshoot.
Since you just purchased the Raider, it will be easier just to return it to the store and get a new working unit.
Well, I know for a fact that the Raider is sold for RM153 in M'sia. And In Singapore its sold for $69.99. And, the Raider has 2 types of value packs. The first value pack comes with 100 extra streamline darts, the second one comes with an............. ...............................................................EXTRA DRUM with another extra 35 streamline darts!!!!! But, it's almost double the price.

The main difference is the Recon shoulder stock is a fixed length design but can hold a 6-dart clip, while the Raider shoulder stock has a 3-stage adjustable length but cannot hold a clip.

ReplyDeleteUsers will definitely feel abit more weight pulling down from the left side of the blaster, but its not too much and the raider is still usable.
I have found out the reason this gun jams alot. The darts, inside the drum mag, will jam and get stuck between the moving notches (that aligns and feeds the ammo) and the inner wall of the drum, thus:

2.Leaving a dart, half fed at the end of the mag, which rips when you cock the gun because it won't chamber properly.
In my opinion, this 'drum jamming' occurs if you use bent or damaged darts. OR, if you use repaired darts. The best option is to use fresh darts, out of the refill package. Any bent, damaged or repaired darts, save them for your other 6-darts clip. They have VERY low tendency to jam, unless you use VERY damaged darts.
so is the range the same as a stock night finder, i find that amazing because the night finder is so small compared to the raider cs-35

If you look at the internals of a Nite Finder and Raider, you'll notice that the Nite Finder actually has a spring plunger with larger air volume and less deadspace than the Raider... hence it is able to produce similar or better range.

ReplyDeleteI guess you could simply mod (or chop off) the fore-grip so that it becomes flat and perhaps mount a suitable piece of cover on it to form the grip.
Ive got one of these clear though but ive thought of a way to make it full auto and heres how im not sure if it will work in the spot in front of the handle would be the motor that pumps the gun and in the stock would be the D battery and would have a trigger activated power on and off.

I don't recall the performance problems before opening up my Raider. However, after I opened it up, I put it back together, (no mods) and noticed it started to jam often. It worked, but only shot a about 15 average. Even indoors, the bullets strayed to the left or right. Also, many times a dart would only fire 5 feel or not come oout of the barrel at all. I have opened up my Raider again, straitened up the internals, and proceeded to close it. The spring and catch spring wouldn't stay in, I can't close it. Also, I suceeded in closing it twice, but when firing, the spring wouldn't catch. What do you think I should do?

ReplyDeleteSeems like some of the blaster internals are still out of place. Check that all the small springs are positioned properly (especially the ones at the pop-up blocker plate and the catch) and also check that the plunger o-ring air seal is still good (apply rubber-safe grease to re-lube it).
I have found the problem. When I stretched the spring, I bent a link, and now it wont enter the catch mechanism. What spring size do you usually replace it with?

ReplyDeleteYeah, stretching springs isn't an advisable thing to do for blaster mods, there is a tendency for the spring to weaken and become out of shape.
The space between the plunger tube and casing is very limited, so replacements springs have to have very specific dimensions to fit properly, the aftermarket spings i use are 110mm in length, have an outer diameter of 27.8mm and a wire diameter of no more than 1.8mm.

The Raider is a good buy because of it's 35-dart drum magazine, you can use that to load into any N-Strike clip-fed blaster so it increase the effectiveness of those blasters.
Getting a 2nd Barricade is cool too, you can dual wield 2 x Barricades which can be quite effective in Nerf games.
Thanks, by the way I have a maverick, recon, and 1 barricade. I like to run around and hit people when they arn't expecting it.

As i mentioned, the clear version is limited edition, so at this moment i'd recommend to get that model (while its still available).

ReplyDeleteI would go for the Longshot, its the only blaster amongst those that you mentioned that has a large volume direct plunger, so its modded performance and range is much higher.
The Recon, Raider and Longstrike all share the same small volume reverse plunger system, so their modding potential and range are limited.
The Raider does have the slam-fire mode and comes with the 35-dart drum magazine though, which is ideal for close-quarters Nerf games where high rate-of-fire (RoF) is useful.
My dart drum for my raider doesn't seem to be pushing bullets up very well...If I just push the little black thing that pushes the bullets,It stays in the same spot for a little and I have to shake it or tap it to make it push the bullets.

ReplyDeleteSeems you got a unit that probably has a weak drum spring or some parts of the plastic internals are getting stuck somehow.
You could open up the drum mag and try to troubleshoot which part is causing the jam up, then either apply some grease or trim the plastic parts affected to allow for a smoother movement.
The other option is to replace the drum mags tape spring, but that will require the use of an equivalent sized and stronger load tape spring (ie. from an auto-retractable tape measure).
Other than that... the other option is to just get a new drum mag. It all depends on your luck. :)

But after they are modded, the Longshot will naturally have longer range because of its much larger direct plunger system.
So my choice will be the Longshot... modded for use in actual Nerf games.

ReplyDeleteWell, they all basically have the same internals, but they are plastic toys, so there can be slight manufacturing variations even amongst individual units in the same series, hence a difference in performance from unit to unit. So it just depends on your luck. :)

Its also a N-Strike blaster so its clips and accessories are compatible with all the other N-Strike blasters too.

DeleteJust test it out, if the priming action requires more effort and the sound of the firing impact is louder, then most likely its modded with stronger spring and/or air restrictor removal... or just fire it and see if it has better range. :)
The Raider can use any of the N-Strike tactical rail compatible scopes or sights. The Recon or Longstrike flip sights can be useful, so is the Pinpoint Sight.
How come in all your reviews the nerf guns come dissasembled? The magwell comes attached in Canada.

DeleteYes, elite foam darts can be used in regular N-Strike clips and drum magazines too.
From initial impressions, they are basically made of a slightly more dense foam than normal streamline foam darts, so probably abit more durable over longer periods of usage.

DeleteMost likely the spring inside the drum magazine is somehow weakened or some part is stuck, so its not advancing the foam darts up properly.
Either you open up the drum magazine casing and check to see if anything is stuck, or replace the spring inside (if you can find a suitable tape spring of the same dimensions and spec)... or just buy a new Raider or drum magazine, save all the hassle.

You can still slam-fire with the shoulder stock attached on. Slam-fire is not affected by shoulder stocks at all, they are separate parts and mechanisms.

But if you can only get one, then get the Clear Series version, it uses a more unique translucent shell material (the Gear Up Series version is just a re-paint).

DeleteI only use Tagger foam darts if a game requires them to be used (ie. Dart Tag games whereby players use Dart Tag vests and ammo for recording hit scoring purposes)... otherwise, for the majority of Nerf games i attend (which are not Dart Tag games), i use modded blasters with custom calibrated foam darts or stefans, which get much better ranges and accuracy.
What's a better sidearm with this? Barrel Brake or

I've already traded away all my Longstrikes a long time ago, so can't do up anymore photos on them.

But when modded, the the Longshot is better because it has a much larger plunger air volume, therefore gets much longer ranges after being modded.

DeleteI rank them based on ease of use, rate-of-fire, modding potential and modded performance.
The Vulcan is a full-auto blaster and it is belt-fed, so you just load in ammo belts then pull the trigger to fire, no need to constantly prime it to fire. With modifications, it can achieve longer range (with stronger springs) and higher rate-of-fire (with higher voltage batteries).
On a side note... the Stampede is even better, as it is full-auto, clip-fed (can use any clips or drum magazines), has even larger plunger volume for longer ranges after modding and is much more portable (not heavy and bulky like the Vulcan).
The Raider has the slam-fire mode and a fore-grip priming system so it can have a higher rate-of-fire too (but you have to manually prime it repeatedly so its tiring to use), it also comes with a 35-dart drum magazine which is very useful. Modded performance is so-so though, due to its small reverse plunger volume.
The Longstrike has the same internal reverse plunger system as the Raider, but it has no slam-fire mode (slower rate-of-fire), uses a side priming handle (which is not as easy to prime and fire quickly) and only comes with a 6-dart clip. So overall its just not as good.
The only reason why people buy Longstrike is because of its design, most people just use it for display... its not usually used in actual Nerf games. :)

DeleteI would rate the Stampede as the best overall blaster, especially when properly modded.
Factors in its favor:
It is full-auto and can achieve very high RoF with voltage mods, has a large sized direct plunger system for longer modded ranges with stronger springs, is clip-fed so it can use all N-Strike clips and drum magazines for high ammo capacity... and looks good (and easy to carry) when minimized into a "SMG" style blaster too.
Accuracy is mainly based on the foam darts used and a Stampede also can be brass breeched which allows it to use customized stefans for even higher accuracy and performance.
So far, no other blaster can match it when comparing them using the same combination of factors. :)

DeleteGet the Nerf Raider, it comes with a higher capacity 35-dart drum magazine (along with an adjustable shoulder stock too), overall more effective in Nerf games.
Btw, you should also consider the Nerf Elite Rampage (since its now been released) as it is an improved version of the Raider. The Rampage is designed to achieve longer ranges than the Raider.
