Nerf Longshot CS-6 (Blue) - Review!

Check out the Nerf Longshot CS-6!

The Nerf Longshot is the one of the most sought after models in the Nerf N-Strike range.

Even though it has a relatively slow rate of fire (being a manual bolt-action blaster), perhaps its the Longshot's "sniper rifle" design or the fact that this model is the longest Nerf gun in the range (more than 3 feet long!), everybody wants one!

  1. Does it come with darts
    and how many?
and where can i buy it from!
can u give me all the places that sell this model.
    and on ur oppinian
the blue longshot or the yellow longshot ,which is nicer?

  2. The Blue Longshot is packaged with 2 x 6-dart magazines and 12 x streamline foam darts.

The Yellow Longshot is the same design (just different colour) but only comes with 1 x 6-dart magazine and 6 x streamline foam darts.

I guess its up to your personal colour preference.

But note that you wouldn't be able to find the Blue Longshot in local stores anymore, it is now replaced by the Yellow Longshot.

You can find Yellow Longshots in almost all local dept stores nowadays.

  3. Does it mean that there will only be 1 clip to hold the foam bullets?
    but its quite unfair D:
i personally like the yellow one

    ReplyDelete
  4. Yup, the new Yellow Longshots only come with 1 x 6-dart magazine.

You'll have to buy additional magazines seperately (ie. Nerf Flip Clip set).

    ReplyDelete
  5. and how much does that cost?
    LOL
are there really no more blue long shot? T.T

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Nerf Flip Clip set costs $39.90, comes packaged with 2 x 6-dart magazines, 30 x Streamline darts and the "Flip Clip" connector.

You might still be able to order Blue Longshots from overseas, but locally there are now only Yellow Longshots.

  7. I brought a flip clip for $12.99 and at my local target there was both blue and yellow longshots(though the blue ones were secound hand). Any way once you have placed tge bolt in your gun is there anyway to get it out to mod my gun. Also I heard you could put the recon barrel on the longshot is this true does work vice versa also could you post some pictures of them with switched barrels. Thanks :C

    ReplyDelete
  8. I investigated and found that you can buy blue longshots (though secound hand). And you can buy a flip clip for $12.99.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I should clarify the currency i use in my comments, i'm in Singapore so my prices are quoted in $SGD. :)

Btw, you can find the photo of a Recon/Longshot barrel swap over at my Yellow Longshot review:

    ReplyDelete
  10. ive heard a lot people say that when you put the recon barrel with the longshot, the longshot will shoot further. is that true?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Well, from my experience and along with the experiences of other local nerfers... we find that attaching a Recon barrel to a Longshot actually tends to decrease its firing distance slightly.

I'm not sure of how the other nerfers you mentioned managed to get further distance by attaching a Recon barrel, perhaps you could test it out yourself and see if it works for you. :)

    1. Are you selling the blue longshot as second hand? I can't find any longshots, either blue or yellow.

      Delete
    2. Anonymous,

I don't have any Blue Longshots for sale 2nd hand, my sets are all collectors items now. :)

Longshots are generally sold out in most countries... though a number of countries may still have remaining limited stock of Yellow Longshots (ie. Singapore, UK, Australia etc), you'll have to shop around to find them.

  12. Folks, seriously, don't attatch any sort of Nerf "barrel" to a Longshot. The bizarre faux-rifling completely messes up the airflow around the dart, causing it to fishtail. If you're not as worried about appearance, it's actually a good idea to saw off part of the front of the gun, but don't go past the bipod area or you will cut into the bolt mechanism, which is bad.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Longshot retails at SGD$79.90 in Singapore.

    ReplyDelete
  14. which is better in your opinion, the raider, the longstrike or the longshot. the longstrike does not have a scope but instead, a flip up sight, is that the same as the recon's? because i have a recon and do not want to buy the same sight. i also want a scope , hence i would like to buy a longshot. is the scope accurate for the longshot or is it like the recon's laser light, which is utterly useless other than for show.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I don't know if you got a faulty laser or something but mine is very accurate (when placed under the barrel)

  15. If you are planning to keep the blaster in original stock condition, then all 3 are equally okay to get 'cos the stock performance are around the same, so it just depends on which design you like better.

If you are going to modify the blaster for more range, then the Longshot will be the best choice as it has a larger direct spring plunger system (which offers much further range after modding), compared to the Longstrike, Raider and Recon's smaller reverse plunger system.

The Longstrike's flip sight works similiarly to the Recon's flip sight, but has a different design.

The scope on the Longshot is not a real scope, its just a hollow plastic tube, no magnification at all.

    ReplyDelete
  16. When I got my Recon stock (w/o barrel) it shot about 20-25 feet, and my Longshot stock (no second gun thingy) shoots about 35-40 feet.

My (now) modded Recon shoots about the same as my stock Longshot, but with a higher velocity.

I don't have a Longstrike (as it isn't available in the USA yet), but when you say that the Recon, to Longshot and the Longstike all have approx. the same range, I think you are mistaken.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well, my experience on stock blaster ranges are observed from having tested dozens of stock Longshots, Recons, Raiders and Longstrikes.

For example, i have one Recon that could shoot to 30 ft, and another Recon only 20 feet... i've had Longshots which only fired to 25ft, and others which could reach 35 ft. These variations are likely due to to different batch manufacturing or individual unit QC variations.

Firing at different angle elevations makes a difference too, so there will also be variable results between users.

Therefore when i average it out, with 5-10 ft variations here and there, i'd just consider those stock blasters as having around similiar performance.

Of course, modded blaster ranges are a whole different story altogether, thats when the bigger and more significant differences in ranges come in. :)

  20. where can i buy longshot scope and how much is it in singapore or anyone is selling it

    ReplyDelete
  21. kenny,

The Longshot scope is only packaged with the Longshot set, it is not sold seperately.

If you are just looking for the scope, you can check the NerfSG forum:

    http://www.nerfsg.com

Go to the trading section there, there are members buying and selling blaster attachments seperately.

Btw, just note that the Longshot scope is just a hollow plastic tube, its a prop piece and does not feature any magnification at all.

    ReplyDelete
  22. hey guys i have a yellow long shot it can not shoot 35 feet does yours kenny?

  24. I've no spare Longshots for sale at the moment. Anyways, I recently spotted lots of Longshot boxes at OG Albert and OG Orchard Point. You can just get them from those places too.

    ReplyDelete

  28. HoneySoyMilk69,

Since you are in Australia, check the OzNerf Forum:

    http://oznerf.forumotion.com/

The aussie nerfers there have already spotted Longshots in stock at dept stores in Australia.

    ReplyDelete

  30. I want to buy a longshot. But i wanna ask something. Is longstrike better or is longshot better? And how much does a clip costs and with some streamline darts.I believe they sell those? The ones without flip thing.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Can you mod it so it can have a recon spring and a longshot spring inside? Because i don't know where to get other springs...

    ReplyDelete
  32. forkandtheroad,

Yes, its possible to add a Recon spring into the Longshot plunger casing, but note that its shorter than the Longshot spring, so it'll tend to rattle around inside. Performance gains would also not be as significant compared to using stronger aftermarket springs.

Check around the hardware stores or spring manufacturing companies around your area, you should be able to find suitable aftermarket springs at those places.

    ReplyDelete
  33. youknowwho,

If you are planning to keep the blaster in original stock condition, then the Longshot and Longstrike offer similiar restricted performance, so it just depends on which design you like better.

If you are going to modify the blaster for more range, then the Longshot will be the best choice as it has a larger direct spring plunger system (which offers much further range after modding), compared to the Longstrike's smaller reverse plunger system.

6-dart clips and streamline dart refills can be purchased in Mission Kit sets, check my "Singapore Nerf Stock List" for local avaliability and prices.

You could also find clips sold seperately on their own by sellers at the NerfSG forum trading section too.

    ReplyDelete
  34. SG Nerf,If you know,do you know where is the nearest spring hardware company around Pasir Ris?I want to mod my Longshot by only the spring.

    ReplyDelete
  35. youknowwho,

    ReplyDelete
  37. lori parkhurst,

Both the Blue and Yellow Longshots are the same externally and internally. The only difference is the colour.

The same modifications can be done on both versions.

    ReplyDelete
  38. where in singapore did u buy tha' nerf longshot?

    ReplyDelete
  39. NerfMasterVim,

Nerf Longshots were avaliable at most major dept stores in Singapore for quite a while.

But lately the stock avaliability for this particular model has been quite limited locally.

You'll just have to keep looking around the various stores to find them. Perhaps you could also ask the dept store staff which of their other branches may still have stock too.

    ReplyDelete
  40. but where particularly did you buy it? please tell me I really want to have it for my collection. my parent is going to Singapore for a golf tournament and I could also tell him to get me one but I need to know what stores they most likely have it.so please tell me where you particularly bought it. is a toy store or dept. store? what is the name of the store

    ReplyDelete
  41. where do you find blue ones nowadays? I follow you....check out my blog also and see if you shall follow meh-here,go here-http://nerffanclub.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  42. NerfMasterVim,

Blue longshots are very rare nowadays as they have been superceded by the newer Yellow longshots in stores since last year.

For stores in Singapore, only the Yellow longshots are avaliable and those are also currently very limited in stock too.

If you are visiting Singapore and want to get Yellow Longshots, one of the local dept stores that reportedly still has stock of them is OG People's Park (Location info: http://www.og.com.sg/contactus.html).

I can't guarantee if there is still any stock left there by the time you are here, but that's probably the best place to find them.

    ReplyDelete
  43. thanks, but do you think airport securities will let my parent pass through the airport or prevent him because the longshot looks like a real gun.....

    ReplyDelete
  44. NerfMasterVim,

Every country's airport customs rules is different, so its best to check with the customs dept in your country to check if such items are allowed onto flights.

    ReplyDelete
  45. No,I meant will singaporean airport securities let him pass?

    ReplyDelete
  46. do you mind if I use your longshot photos for my site? my site is-http://nerffanclub.blogspot.com/

    ReplyDelete
  47. NerfMasterVim,

I can't comment on the stance of airport customs towards nerf blasters, you'll need to check with them specifically on it.

In addition, different airlines also have different rules about the transport of items, so its best to check with them too.

    ReplyDelete
  48. NerfMasterVim,

If you need to, you can reference some of the blaster photos from my blogs in your blog's posts, just make sure you credit the photos to my blog. :)

  49. Hi, just curious, i just bought a blue longshot online recently. While the seller claimed that it is brand new, the item i recieved doesnt seem to be so. i noticed that there are quite a few scratches on the blasters. Is it a clear sign sign that it's a second hand item, or did yours came in similar condition as well?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Edwin,

Well, the majority of Longshots that i have in brand new condition don't have scratches on their casing.

Sometimes there can be a minor scratch or scuff mark, which could just be from the handling or packing of the blaster for shipping.

Otherwise, if you spot multiple visible scratches on the casing, then that blaster has probably been used or transported around before.

    ReplyDelete
  55. iTowils,

No idea on the stock availability of Longshots in the States, 'cos i'm situated in Singapore (as mentioned in the site title and description).

Longshots are now out-of-production, so your best bet is to try searching online or visit more stores around your area to hopefully find Longshots.

  56. I have a Nerf Recon CS-6 Clear and I've used it only 4 times and it's jamed like crazy right in the barrel/loading area. I shot it one time and it shot out two darts, then shot again and shot out 1 about 40-45ft without mods

    ReplyDelete
  57. what does the longshots scope look like?

    ReplyDelete
  58. nerf team,

The Longshot "scope" is basically a hollow plastic tube that is shaped like a scope.

It does not have any magnification or calibration capabilities.

i hope that if you find it you can inform me at dashhzzzz@gmail.com
    thanks

  62. Longshots are now out-of-production, so either you order online from overseas (if the online sites still have stock) or buy from local Nerf enthusiasts who might still have spare sets to sell.

What you saw was a Longstrike, not a Longshot.

Longshots have been sold out locally for a while. The only other ways to get them nowadays is to order from overseas or online stores (if they still have stock), via eBay, or from local Nerf enthusiasts at the NerfSG forum.

    ReplyDelete
  67. SG Nerf,
    is there still any longshots
in SG? If so how much in SGD?

    ReplyDelete
  68. wafi,

Looks like they are all sold out in Singapore (they used to retail locally for SGD79.90).

As mentioned in my earlier comment, the only other avenues to get them nowadays is to order from overseas or online stores (if they still have stock), via eBay, or from local Nerf enthusiasts at the NerfSG forum.

  69. Do those orange clip things in stores work with the Longshot or is that just for the stampede and long strike and stuff

The store i buy all my nerf guns from is Kmart , so do you think there would be a blue longshot in Australia (Kmart)? Also i have a Recon cs-6 and i need to know can you use the Recon's barrel for the Longshot? Thanks a lot :).

    ReplyDelete
  77. Jayden,

Yes, i guess the Nerf popularity in Oz is not as crazy as in SG, so you guys are lucky to currently still have Longshots available in ample numbers sitting on the shelves (over here, all of those boxes would have been snapped up within a matter of days, like when a limited shipment of Yellow Longshots appeared during December 2010 in SG, people were actually buying up multiple sets at one go!).

Anyways, Blue Longshots were replaced by the Yellow version. Since mid-2010, i've not seen anymore new Blue versions in stores and even online, so i guess it'll be very rare to find a new Blue Longshot in stores nowadays.

Thats why Blue Longshot can fetch a higher price at online auction sites now, they have become collectors items amongst Nerf enthusiasts. :)

Yes, the Recon front barrel attachment can be fitted to the Longshot too, you can read my review of the Yellow Longshot version here:

  78. Okay thanks a lot SGnerf , you helped me alot :D.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Is it true that a long shot can easily reach 50ft without the extension pistol?

    ReplyDelete
  80. megaNOOB,

For most N-Strike blasters, their front barrel attachments tend to cause the foam darts to bump against the barrel walls, this reduces the velocity and decreases the range. The blasters will usually get better ranges without the barrel attachments.

The average stock range of Nerf Longshots is around 25-30ft when fired at a flat trajectory and parallel to the ground (the box states "shoots up to 35ft", note the "up to" words).

For a stock Longshot to achieve 50ft, it'll have to be fired at a high angle so the foam darts lob in a high trajectory (like a catapult shot)... but that's not a standard way to measure ranges amongst Nerf enthusiasts.

Of course, Longshots can be performance modified to achieve longer ranges (and much more). :)

  88. Would a stampede 18 dart clip hit the surface (ground) when the longshot is stationed and relaxing on the ground and the 18 dart clip was in the clip feeding system? Would the longshot be wobbling because the 18 dart clip was too long and was taller than the bipod and stock? I have a stampede and want a longshot. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  89. megaNOOB,

The 18-dart clip will definitely obstruct the usage of the Nerf Longshot with its bipod if you try to position it on a flat surface.

The bipod legs wouldn't even be able to touch the ground. :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Although, you could put the legs on a narrow wall or something and be fine, cause the clip would still be in the air.

Also, I have considered trying to mod the blaster and the darts to truly rifle. Everyone knows that if you spin a projectile along it's center of gravity that it is more accurate. Alas, since we aren't using gunpowder or sealed barrels, I doubt you could get more range or power out of it that way.

Still, accuracy is nothing to sneer at. Also, combine (in the longest barrel you can get) with some mods on the spring system and plunger and then get a REAL scope and you could have an actual Nerf Sniper Rifle!

If you are in Singapore, the Yellow Nerf Longshot is currently in stock at local dept stores. Its a very limited re-stock though, so best to get while stocks last.

If you are overseas, then i guess you'd have not much choice but to order from online stores.

Also im not sure if it affects you but when the stock is collapsed it hurts my wrist is there a way to drill a new hole for the stock to sit in giving it 3 settings instead of 2?

    ReplyDelete
  98. fooder331,

Just check the various Nerf forum trading sections to find sellers who have the front blaster unit available for sale.

So far, i find the existing shoulder stock at full extension to be just right for me. I don't use it collapsed.

I guess its possible to mod the shoulder stock to allow more extension settings, just cut and drill extra slots to customize it.

    ReplyDelete
  99. do you recommend this or longstrike ?

    ReplyDelete
  100. bryan,

    I'd recommend the Longshot.

This is due to its modding potential... the Longshot uses a direct plunger system with a much larger air volume, compared to the small reverse plunger system in the Longstrike.

As a result, modded Longhots naturally have much greater performance and range compared to equivalently modded Longstrikes.

In addition, Longshots are no longer available in many countries already, and have become collectors items amongst Nerf enthusiasts. :)

    ReplyDelete
  101. then would you recommend the blue or yellow one ?

    ReplyDelete
  102. bryan,

I'd recommend the blue version. It comes with 2 clips (instead of just 1 clip in the yellow version), its got a nice blue casing color (not all bright yellow)... and the blue version is very rare nowadays, highly sought after by Nerf collectors. :)

    ReplyDelete
  103. is it still available in sg takashimaya ? and is it heavy ?

    ReplyDelete
  104. bryan,

Not too sure of the current stock availability there, you'll just have to visit the store to check it out.

The main blaster unit weighs around 1.1kg, the front pistol blaster weighs around 0.5kg. If both are combined, its approx 1.6kg in total.

Streamline foam darts are already unbalanced and inaccurate when used in stock blasters... and they get even more inaccurate when used in modded blasters.

For consistency and accuracy in modded blasters, you have to use custom calibrated foam darts. Here are some guides to refer to:

    3. Anonymous,

Yes, i've already tested Elite foam darts too. They are slightly more consistent and accurate than Streamlines... but they still swerve and curve in flight though (just less severe).

They still can't match properly custom calibrated foam darts in overall reliability and accuracy. :)

Blue Longshots have been sold out everywhere for many years already... so when a site says "color and styles may vary", you'll most likely get a Yellow version. You can order and give it a try though, maybe you might be lucky. :)

      Longshot cs6
      Longstrike cs6
      Maverick rev6
      Recon cs6
      Raider cs35

      Delete
    7. Anonymous,

From my experience testing dozens of stock unit of each blaster model, its difficult to confirm which has the "best" stock range... because even amongst individual units there are production variations, so each unit on its own exhibits slightly different ranges.

Their ranges are not consistent enough to be able to make a distinction.

For example, its possible to buy 2 Longstrikes from the same store shelf... and have one that can achieve 35ft, while the other unit gets only 20ft. It depends on your luck. :)

So we generally just say that they achieve average stock 25-30ft ranges.

Honestly, the difference of a few feet in stock blasters is so insignificant compared to the 100-150 ft long ranges in modded blasters.

Thats more expensive than its original retail price when it was released, but since its no longer in production, sellers naturally price them higher. If you feel that its an okay price, then just get it.

Overall, the Air Tech 2000 is quite a good blaster to add to any Nerf collection.

It seems that the Longshot is currently out-of-production... although some remaining Yellow versions can still be found from a few sellers, the Blue versions have been all sold out for quite a long time already.

So far, Nerf has not released any new blaster that can match the Longshot in plunger size though (its large plunger volume is what allows the Longshot to achieve much longer ranges when modded).

Alternatively, you could check out the latest Nerf Elite Series blasters, like the Retaliator or Rampage. Those new models are designed to achieve improved ranges in stock condition so they could be a substitute (though their modded ranges are still limited by comparatively smaller plunger volumes).

    1. Anonymous,

The Longshot is better, it has a much larger plunger tube volume, thus achieving much longer ranges after modding. Thats why its such a popular blaster amongst modders and players.

The Longstrike is limited in modding potential by its inefficient reverse plunger system with small plunger volume.

Most people get the Longstrikes just based on its looks and design, but hardly use them in actual Nerf games because they simply cannot match up to the modded ranges of other blasters, so they mostly just end up being used for display or collection purposes. :)

Blue Longshots are very rare nowadays and are highly sought after by collectors, you'll have to really search around to find sellers for them.

Check the NerfSG forum trading section, sometimes there are local sellers there, but note that prices of blue versions are usually much higher than the more common yellow versions.

It's not like you can just order it anytime you want... the blue versions have already been sold out a long time ago. The only way to obtain them nowadays is to get from existing owners (if they are willing to sell).

Btw, if you are still not aware... this blog is NOT by Hasbro or Nerf, we are just a hobby enthusiast site.

Sure, Longshots are great blasters to use in games (when modded) and for collection.

Based on rarity, the Red version is your first choice (if you can actually find them), followed by Blue version (which is rare) and then the Yellow version (not as rare).

The Blue version comes with 2 clips, Yellow version comes with only 1 clip... not sure about the Red version, i guess you'll have to check around.
