Introducing the latest in Firefly Tech... the Nerf Rayven CS-18!
The Nerf Rayven uses a "bullpup" design with a flywheel powered system to launch foam darts in semi-auto. It features 2 spinning flywheels positioned in a vertical layout (similar to the Nerf Barricade).
Pull the "acceleration trigger" button at the trigger handle (similar to the Nerf Vortex Nitron) to power up the flywheels, then pull the main trigger to fire. Each trigger pull fires one shot. The rate-of-fire depends on the how quick you can continuously pull the trigger.
It uses the Firefly Tech 18-dart clip which has inbuilt LED lights to "charge" up the special glow-in-the-dark streamline foam darts. Once those foam darts are fired, they will stay glowing briefly, then the glow will fade away. The foam darts can be "re-charged" when back in the clip or from any suitable light source.
The Firefly Tech clip and glow-in-the-dark streamline foam darts are usable with other N-Strike clip-fed blasters. The Rayven can also use all N-Strike clips and drum magazines, as well as normal streamline form darts.
The Rayven requires 4 x AA batteries to operate, and the Firefly Tech clip requires 3 x AA batteries (batteries sold separately).
It has tactical rails on the top and on the right side which are compatible with N-Strike accessories. It also has a front barrel attachment point which is compatible with N-Strike barrel attachments too.
The blaster comes packaged with 18 x glow-in-the-dark streamline foam darts.
Average stock range is around 25-30ft.

How noisy is this blaster compared to the Barricade?
ReplyDeleteBednesti,
ReplyDeleteImho, it seems to be around the same... maybe slightly quieter, but the buzzing noise is still there.
Hi sg Nerf. I say many people like Lord Draconical and jerm781. They got the glow in the dark darts for the Rayven. Any idea where to get the 50 dart pack?
ReplyDeletedamien,
ReplyDeleteThey got it off eBay. Here is the link: http://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/50pcs-NERF-N-Strike-clip-system-dart-Mint-Loose-Nerf-Gun-Toy-Child-Boy-RWB08-/280795644518?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4160b98266
:D
Does not wurk .....
DeleteOh, it's finally out! I've been dying for this one! So the light which makes the ammo glow is in the clip itself, and not the gun? Does that mean that if they sell those clips separately someday, we can buy the clips, load them into Recons and Stampedes and fire glowing darts without needing to buy the Rayven? That would be great, but probably also means that they'll probably never sell the extra clips like that....
ReplyDeleteHey SG. Where did you get your Rayven from?
ReplyDeleteZiechyel,
ReplyDeleteI got my sets from an overseas seller a while back. You can try checking sites like TaoBao or eBay to find sellers.
The Design is as nice as the firefly's.It looks nice
ReplyDeletewere can you get it
ReplyDeletechoo,
ReplyDeleteCheck at online sites or eBay... or keep a lookout for them popping up at dept stores soon.
This will look friggin epic with my longstrike whiteout front barrel. Can this be modded like the barricade to get around 60ft?
ReplyDeletenikhilk,
ReplyDeleteCheck out my Rayven Mod Guide:
http://www.modworks.blogspot.com/2011/12/nerf-rayven-mod-guide_27.html
Just posted up. :)
Also, how much did you pay for the gun?
ReplyDeletenikhilk,
ReplyDeleteThe sets i got from overseas worked out to around SGD$50+ including shipping.
SG, how hard wearing and long lasting is the gun? Also, how long do the batteries last on average
ReplyDeletesupersonic1997,
ReplyDeleteI guess it as durable as any other Nerf blaster. :)
Battery lifespan depends on the quality and capacity of the batteries used... i've only been testing the blaster for the past few days though, but so far the GP Ultra Alkaline AA batteries i used have lasted for around 600-700 shots and there is still power.
SG, is the Rayven exclusive to any stores? I went into Target yesterday and did not run into any.
ReplyDeleteUnknown,
ReplyDeleteNot too sure when it'll be fully available at all the major dept stores, i guess you'll just have to keep a lookout for them popping up soon.
How long is it compared to other clip system blasters? Or in feet?
ReplyDeleteDaniel,
ReplyDeleteIf you are referring to the blaster length, its approx. 43cm in length.
If you meant the stock range, as mentioned in my review its around 25-30ft, similar to most stock Nerf blasters.
it looks alot like a FAMAS from call of duty black ops... i would like to see someone replicate it
ReplyDeleteFinally someone is thinking the same thing as me, from the beginning i was like whao a famas:)
DeleteDon't see famas guys
DeleteBO dork, the FAMAS is from real life too, sheesh.
DeleteI thought it looked more like the P-90.
DeleteWhich for the record... Is my all time favorite gun. I'm considering selling a few Magic Cards so I can afford one of these babies. I' kind of broke right now. (Being unemployed will do that to a person. XD)
I personally think it looks like a Uzi. When I saw it I was like ' Yaaay!!! A sub-machinegun! ' LOL.
Deleteyou bought it From Taoboa rite?
ReplyDeleteCarbonnerf,
ReplyDeleteWell, the units i reviewed were sent from an overseas friend a while back (i just didn't have time to review them until now)... but recently some units did pop up on TaoBao too, so you could try searching for them there, not sure if those sellers still have stock though.
is it comfortable to holdand use? is the lack of a shoulder stock a problem?
ReplyDeletelrmo306,
ReplyDeleteImho, it's very ergonomic and comfortable to use. This is called a "bullpup" design, the trigger handle is positioned further forward, so everything behind that is actually the shoulder stock, which also houses the clip and firing system. This allows the blaster to be shorter and more compact.
You can read more about "bullpup" designs in this link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullpup
Looks like the blaster will sit very comfortably in the shoulder, the length between the rear of the blaster and the pistol grip looks similar to that of any blaster you can fit a stock to the rear of. Its just a very compact design thats all :)
ReplyDeleteSG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteWhat are the clear batteries you used in the voltage mod?
--
Philip
Philip,
ReplyDeleteThose are DIY dummy AA spacers to fill in and bypass the empty battery compartment slots.
They are simply made from AAA to AA battery converter shells with a thick coiled copper wire installed inside connecting the + and - contacts.
Do you think you could post pictures of it with the longstrike barrel, longshot scope, and foregrip? Or just whichever of those you have; very curious how it'd look!
ReplyDeleteDragoon,
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, i've already traded away those other blasters and accessories a while back, so i can't do more combination photos with them. I usually don't keep blasters or accessories that i never use in Nerf games anyways... saves space for newer blasters. :)
Sg nerf.
ReplyDeleteWhen is this goying to be released. I read the official date is march 3rd but it's been in some stores since the 27 of December. Do you know what is going on.
Also what do you think of the Scout ix-3. And does the yellow one still work with the Titan.
Thankyou in advance.
zebra,
ReplyDeleteOfficial launch dates for new Nerf blasters are just indicative release dates, it's common to see blasters arriving earlier or later at stores. It just depends on the various distribution schedules in different stores and countries.
The Scout IX-3 is quite a nice blaster, it's got a compact form factor and many nerfers like it for it's design.
The yellow versions i've seen still have the secondary trigger activation button at the top of their tactical rails, so they should be able to work with Nerf Titans as integrated blasters too.
Thanks SG Nerf I was also wondering why it is not the Rayven ECS 18. And has the Rayven popped up in Singapore.
ReplyDeletezebra,
ReplyDeleteNo idea why Nerf reverted back to the normal "CS-18" type of label, instead of having its own unique label. I guess its for simplicity. :)
The Rayven is not available locally yet,, but if it does pop up at local stores, i will update that info on this site.
Rayvens spotted at the Target in Chicago, not sure about elsewhere.
ReplyDeletembryanawesome,
ReplyDeleteGet a Nerf Stampede. :)
Hey SGNerf,
ReplyDeleteJust in case any Aussies are wondering when they can get this, Target will start to stock it Mid February.
mbryanawesome,
ReplyDeleteGet a Raider... for its 35-dart drum mag, which you can also use in your other clip-fed blasters.
Has the Lumitron made it over there at all yet?
ReplyDeleteMacTrekkie,
ReplyDeleteSo far, retail sources in Singapore have indicated that the Rayven and Lumitron are slated to launch at local stores here around March 2012.
Saw this in Kmart in Aus today. Priced at $45AUD, little overpriced but I will probably go back tomorrow and get it.
ReplyDeleteMy Rayven is acting weird. The fly wheels won't turn when I have a 35 round drum and six clips. The original clip works and so do all my 18 round clips. Any idea what could be wrong?
ReplyDeletenightfox431,
DeleteIt could be due to one of the pressure switches in your Rayven's clip well that is not being activated properly by the other clips and mags, hence the circuit is still open.
Check the sides of those other clips and mags, it could be due to an indentation on the back part which could be the cause. You could try attaching a piece of plastic to that indentation so that it matches with the design on the 18-dart clips.
Alternatively , just use some duct tape to tape down the pressure switches in the clip well, that should solve the issue.
I just looked at the drum and six round clips and found that they had hollowed out spots whereas the other magazines had that spot filled in. I'll just tape down the pressure switches. Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeletehey sg, where can i get nerf accesories in Singapore?
ReplyDeletesupersonic1997,
DeleteCheck at the local dept stores, they usually have a selection of N-Strike accessory kits currently available, refer to this list:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/03/latest-nerf-store-stock.html
Note that not all the kits are available in Singapore. For the other kits, you'll have to get them from overseas stores or order from online sites.
Dear SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteToday I picked up a rayven at my local Target.
When I got home, I opened it up, but all the batteries in...ect. (I used NEW batteries bought that day) Upon firing, the darts flew about 6 feet. Do you know what happened? Did I do something wrong? Or is this blaster just defective?
ERIK (the REAL one),
DeleteIt could be a faulty unit, just exchange it at the store for a new properly working set.
It looks a little like a FAMAS. It's also what people wished barricades were origionally like
ReplyDeletecan you tell me the dimension of this model?.I want to put it some kind of a case.thanks
ReplyDeleteitachi1201,
DeleteIts overall dimensions is approx. 42cm x 21 cm x 6 cm (rounded up). :)
Hi SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteI'm a long time reader, first time poster. I wanted to ask, have you shot this gun with the spectre barrel? Is it comfortable to hold two handed (like a rifle) with the spectre? And does the recon barrel hurt the ranges? And if it does, is it worth it to be more erganomically like a rifle. Or stay with the spectre barrel?
Tye Taylors,
DeleteI've tested the Rayven with various N-Strike front barrel attachments and it can still be used comfortably, though ranges tend to decrease due to the foam darts bumping against the walls of the additional barrel length.
Front barrel attachments are more suitable as prop decoration... performance-wise its still better without them. :)
Could I get a picture of your rayven next to a ruler?
ReplyDeleteSorry, my real question (or more appropriate question over the one last submitted) How many cm is it from the bottom of the muzzle to the place where it stops being flat and starts to cut back on an angle?
ReplyDeleteTye Taylor's,
DeleteThe length of the Rayven from muzzle to shoulder stock is approx. 42.5cm.
I meant vertically from the muzzle down sorry :(
DeleteTye Taylors,
DeleteOkay, the total height of the Rayven from the top of the tactical rail to the bottom edge of the trigger handle is 21cm.
If you only want to know the height from the bottom of the muzzle to the bottom edge of the trigger handle, then its 13cm.
this gun is very cooollllllll no it is perfect
ReplyDeleteHi sgnerf, do you think $80 is worth it for the rayven? Or should I look around eBay or sgnerf forums for a cheaper one?
ReplyDeleteSamuel Ng,
DeleteWell, if you are keen on flywheel blasters and the firefly tech "glow-in-the-dark" feature, then its quite a good blaster to get.
You could check around eBay or the trading section at the NerfSG forum to see if anyone is selling... or just look out for promo sales at local dept stores. :)
Is this worth the 25$ You pay for it?
ReplyDeleteThemicster,
DeleteImho, if you like flywheel blasters, its worth to get the Rayven.
Hi, SgNerf. I've been waiting so long for this blaster to hit the stores of Indonesia. Do you know when this blaster released in Indonesia?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteI'm not familiar with the stock availability in Indonesia, i guess you'll just have to check with the local stores around your area.
How much is it?????
ReplyDeletegttiqw,
DeleteIt retails for SGD$79.90 in Singapore.
SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteHow many trustfires do you run in your Rayven? I thought you ran 3, but you sad you run 12.6v ...to my count, each has 3.7v x3 = 11.1v or 3.7x4=14.8v so how do you get your "perfect voltage" of 12.6?
Tye Taylors,
DeleteYes, for an overall balance of performance and reliability (especially when using customized "stefan" ammo), i usually use 3 x 14500-size TrustFire Li-Ion rechargeable batteries in my modded Rayvens, which outputs a total of 12.6V.
As mentioned in my Rayven Mod Guide:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2011/12/nerf-rayven-mod-guide_27.html
Li-Ion batteries when fully charged up are actually at 4.2V (their 3.7V label is just a "nominal" voltage rating).
3 x 4.2V = 12.6V. :)
SG Nerf Rayven Note 10/? Do you think ? And Nerf Swarmfire note 10/? Do you think
ReplyDeleteEge Ă–zden,
DeleteGet the Rayven.
Thanks. i'm buy rayven and Furyfire blasters very good
ReplyDeleteWould this be good to duel-wield?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteYup... that's one of the advantages of semi-auto blasters, they are great to dual-wield. :)
Also I would just thinking, wouldn't it be AWSOME if this had an ELITE version? You know the 75ft ones? (;
DeleteSG Nerf,
ReplyDeletewhich gun would you recommend a beginner to? Is the longstrike better or the rayven.Pls reply.
Anonymous,
DeleteBoth are okay for beginners... but the Rayven is overall more effective in Nerf games.
Hey SgN
ReplyDeleteWhere did u get yr rayven from ? Website or private seller/supplier?
N-Strike 3 team,
DeleteThey are currently available at most major dept stores in Singapore.
Hello,
ReplyDeleteOverall, do you think this blaster is better than the Barricade in terms of range, cost, and overall effectiveness?
Anonymous,
DeleteBoth their ranges are similar.
The Rayven is clip-fed so its definitely more effective than the Barricade in Nerf games, based on ammo capacity.
But its more expensive than the Barricade.
I'm just wondering but what would happen if you put trustfire batteries (any kind) in the clip, what would happen?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIt'll probably just overload the clip's LEDs and damage them (unless there is a protection system in the circuit). :)
Hm. Been thinking about getting a Firefly REV-8 to go with my Rayven, but I want to know if you know if the glow in the dark clip system darts A: work with the Firefly, and B: if they get charged by the Firefly's light... Thanks in advance. ^_^
ReplyDeletescarecrow,
DeleteThe glow-in-the-dark streamlines can be "charged" up by the Firefly's flash feature... but you may have to remove (or just trim) the plastic dart posts inside the turret barrels as they might interfere with the proper loading of those streamlines. Just test and see.
What is the sight attachment called and where do u get 1?!?!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteThat is the Nerf Pinpoint Sight, it was sold in stores back in 2008-2009:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/09/nerf-pinpoint-sight-review.html
They seem to be all sold out everywhere nowadays though, i guess you'll have to check online to see if they are still available or if anyone is keen to sell 2nd hand sets.
Just got this blaster, and it is AWESOME!!!!!!!!,it is much better than the barricade in ranges and noise, and it is also much better than the nitron.Just love it.
ReplyDeleteHow much did you pay for this rayven set plus shipping cost if there is a shipping cost
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteThe Nerf Rayven is available at local dept stores in Singapore, they retail for SGD$79.90.
Why is it so expensive? It does not seem worth the price.
ReplyDeleteLooks like it has got a perfect handling and comfortable grip.
ReplyDeletedear sg nerf,
ReplyDeletethe elite yaven is comeing out right?do you know when is it?thanks.
Anonymous,
DeleteI've no idea either... guess we'll just have to keep a lookout for it popping up in stores soon.
Hi sgnerf
ReplyDeleteelite rayven better or retaliator??
>< thanks
Anonymous,
DeleteSince the Elite Rayven is not available in local stores yet, get the Elite Retaliator.
Elite rayven is it the same? They said that it can shoot further and the colour is not same and they say is not worth dk why
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,,
DeleteThe Elite Rayven basically operates the same way, but it uses faster motors to get improved ranges.
Some modders prefer getting the cheaper older Rayven model as they already plan to replace the Rayven motors with even faster motors anyways.
There are also some people who prefer the green color scheme too. I guess it depends on individual preference.
Is rayven still available in any stores in sg??
ReplyDeleteThank Sg nerf,
ReplyDeleteI was going to buy it and wanted to know more about it. you are very helpful!
Many Thanks!!!
