Check out the Nerf Recon CS-6!
The Nerf Recon features a modular component design, users can swap the various parts to customize it to fit any tactical situation.
It's loading/unloading and manual bolt action firing mechanisms are similar to the Nerf Longshot, but in a more compact scale with the bolt slider situated on top instead. Both the Nerf Recon and Longshot can utilize the same parts and tactical attachments. In addition, both use the same 6-dart magazines and are only compatible with streamline foam darts.
The Nerf Recon package also includes an adjustable ladder sight to aid in aiming, and a tactical targeting laser module which can switch between red-beam spotlight or focused red-dot targeting (requires 2 x AAA batteries).
The average firing range of the Nerf Recon is similar to the Nerf Longshot at around 25-30 ft.
Note that the Nerf Recon is packaged with only 1 x 6-dart magazine, it can hold a spare magazine in its butt stock but you'll have to purchase that separately.

i bought 1 of this and i put the barrel on. the ammo only went like 10-20 ft
ReplyDeleteIn stock condition, it should have a firing distance of around 25-30 ft, regardless of whether the front barrel is fitted or not.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you got a faulty unit? Some units could have weaker seals or springs. If possible, it could be a good idea to return to the store and exchange for another one.
Is It Still Available In Singapore???
Deletejianke,
DeleteThe Recon is an old model and already phased out of production, its no longer available in local stores.
Get the Retaliator instead, it is the new improved version which has better performance and range.
I have two questions about the Recon Stock:
ReplyDeleteCan the Recon stock hold Raider 35-Dart Clips? If so, how many?
Could you please post a pic of the Raider clips in it, if it works?
Thanks!
I've checked and the Recon shoulder stock cannot fit the Raider drum magazine, due to insufficient space between the magazine holder and the handle of the Recon.
ReplyDeleteCool blog, and cool gun!
ReplyDeleteI have a Nite Finder and a Maverick, and I think it's time to move on to a bigger gun. I have been thinking about getting the Recon, but the Longshot also seems good, although too big. Which one would you recommend? Are there any other great guns I'm missing out? The Vulcan and the Raider seem too big. I want something more simple, that can shoot beyond 40 ft. If I mod the Recon, will it reach further than that?
Sorry about so many questions, but you seem to be an expert on this and I kinda need advice from some one who knows what he's talking about, like you :)
Well, in stock version, Longshots, Raiders and Recons have similiar range (around 25-30 ft).
ReplyDeleteIn terms of mod potential... it'll really depend on your gamestyle.
For distance, it will be the Longshot, modded with AR removal, stronger springs, reinforcements etc. One of the reasons is because its plunger system has almost twice the air capacity of Recon and Raider plungers. Its possible for well modded Longshots to achieve up to 90-100 ft ranges.
For high Rate-of-Fire (RoF), it will be the Raider, with it's 35-dart drum magazine, it can usually outlast all other blasters in games. Being able to keep firing while others are busy reloading magazines is a very crucial advantage in games. In addition, its Slam-Fire mode allows users to rain down a constant barrage of shots on opponents, pinning them down... something the Longshot and Recon cannot do. Its possible for well modded Raiders to achieve up to 60-70 ft ranges.
For Compact form-factor, it'll be the Recon. Because of its modular design, it can be used just as a pistol, which makes it easier to maneuver around with. Modded ranges are around the same as the Raider (they share similiar internals).
Hope the info helps! :)
Wow, thanks a lot man! Great info!
ReplyDeleteI think I'll get the Recon then. Is it true that it jams way too often? I've been thinking it may be because people use other darts instead of the Streamline ones that that gun is supposed to shoot. What kind of modding do you think I should do to it to get more range? Is there any tutorial or Instructable that you would recommend? Thanks for answering, and again, sorry for so many questions!
I've posted up Mod Guides on the Longshot, Recon and Raider.
ReplyDeleteCheck them out over at my modworks blog:

:)
Wow man, thanks a lot again! You're great!
ReplyDeleteIn your experience, can the recon use any kind of darts, or are they restricted to the streamline type?
ReplyDeleteThe Recon in stock version is only compatible with streamline darts.
ReplyDeleteBut there are modding techniques to allow it to fire other foam dart types.
Check out the Recon Tagger dart compatibility guide at my Mod Works blog:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/04/nerf-recon-mod-tagger-dart.html
Is ther a web site you can recommend for buying flip clips and can you fit a flip clip in the stock.
ReplyDeleteYou could try:
ReplyDeletewww.amazon.com
www.hasbrotoyshop.com
This is nice. I just got one today, a friend got it for me. Have you looked at the instruction manual? It seems the bothered to give us a good way to aim this time.
ReplyDeleteYup, the Recon's ladder sight helps in elevated angle aiming.
ReplyDeleteMost nerf stock blasters usually need to be aimed at an elevated angle, so that darts fly in a lob trajectory (at least to reach the average stated stock range on the box).
Though once modded, the aiming points become much flatter, straighter and more direct. :)
i got a recons and modded it. after firing a couple shots, the plengers back blew open and im not sure how this happened>
ReplyDeleteIf you removed the air restricter (AR) in your Recon's bolt, then there is no more air buffering system to cushion the plunger on bolt impact.
ReplyDeleteWithout adequate plunger padding, repeated impacts would eventually crack or punch a hole through the base of the plunger.
I posted the plunger padding solution to this common issue at my Mod Works blog guide on modding Recons.
Check it out via this link:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
Hey, read through your tutorials, seem very good. I was wandering one of the first posts asked about the drum magazine and the recons shoulder stock. does that mean the recon cannot use the drum magazine? if not is there a way to mod either the gun or magazine to allow the recon to use the drum magazine? thanks
ReplyDeleteYes, the Recon can definitely use the drum magazine.
ReplyDeleteThe earlier comment you saw was only asking if the drum magazine could clip onto the Recons's shoulder stock (which is shaped to fit regular magazines only), not into the Recon itself.
Check out the Raider review here, shows a drum magazine used on a Recon too:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/09/nerf-raider-cs-35-review.html
There is also a Walmart exclusive red colour version available.
ReplyDeletehey, do you now how to extend the dart capacity for the mag that comes with this this Because there are no barrel mags or single six dart mags for sale.also I think that the standard one hasn't got a high enough dart capacity. I wanted to ask a pro on this kind of subject and didn't think that anyone else would have the know how to something like this. thankyou in advance even if you dont find a way.
ReplyDeleteWell, you can buy extra 6-dart clips seperately, via Nerf N-Stike Mission or Flip Clip packs.
ReplyDeleteFor more ammo capacity, there are also methods to join 2 clips together to form 12-dart clips, commonly referred to as "Super Clips".
Check out a mod guide here: http://nerfhaven.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8071&st=0&p=99368&#entry99368
Alternatively, you could also just get a Raider 35-dart drum magazine and use it with your Recon! :)
I really don't know why people make such a big deal about inverse plungers. They go just as far as longshot ones and are quieter! the only reason why its worse is because when modded, the range falls short of a modded longshot.
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right!
ReplyDeleteFor those going to keep their blasters in original stock condition, it doesn't make much of a difference if the blaster has a direct or reverse plunger.
It's only for those planning to mod the blasters that the difference is significant. :)
Can u use a cs35 clip instead of a cs6 but keep a cs6 in the stock?
ReplyDeleteYes, you can use a 35-dart drum clip in the Recon and store a 6-dart clip in its shoulder stock.
ReplyDeleteSweet. Any idea where to get a cs35 clip without buying the raider?
ReplyDeleteSo far, the 35-dart drum magazines are not sold seperately, they only come packaged with the Raider set.
ReplyDeleteYou could try the online nerf forums or perhaps eBay, there might be sellers with stand-alone drum magazines for sale.
K thx bro.
ReplyDeletehey, i just got a nerf recon cs-6 and thinking of moding the power of it, but i dont wish to touch the air restrictor. so i am looking into the spring and thinking of getting a larger spring to insert. where could i get a spring that would give me more power. and has it ever been done before?
ReplyDeletejamespk3run,
ReplyDeleteYou can check out the Nerf Recon Mod Guide over at my Mod Works blog:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
Stronger aftermarket springs can be sourced from spring manufacturers or stores. If you are in SG, check the NerfSG forum as there are modders selling suitable-sized aftermarket springs in the trading section.
Note that if you install a stronger aftermarket spring but don't remove the Air Restrictor (AR), the performance increase will be very much reduced, because the intact AR is still restricting the air flow.
Hey, if I only remove the air restrictor on the recon, will it make a difference In distance? I wanted to get one, but not mod it too much, just make it shoot further.
ReplyDeleteek_rice97,
ReplyDeleteYup, you can just remove the ARs only and that mod alone should improve the range by around an additional 12-15ft.
You can check out the Recon Mod Guide over at my Mod Works blog:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
Hey SG Nerf ! If i am looking for shot distance, which should I get a Maverick or a Recon.
ReplyDeleteI have seen your mod guide on Recon and questioned my ability to mod flawlessly.
Thanks for your advice.
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteIf you are looking for a blaster for close quarter games, both the Maverick and Recon are good choices. Both have similiar stock ranges too (differing only by a few ft).
Go for the Maverick if you prefer something compact and easy to handle.
Get the Recon if you like something that is modular and uses the N-strike clip system for faster reloads.
ThaNks SG Nerf
ReplyDeleteI have decided on getting an affordable Maverick.
I was wondering if you had any detailed guides on how to mod a Maverick to enhance the usage or range ? Or is it impossible to do so because of the direct plunger system it uses?
Ashley,
ReplyDeleteFor the Maverick, as it has a smaller reverse plunger system and air gap between the rotating barrels and plunger, power improvements from modifications would naturally be less significant, but they can still be done.
You could add a stronger spring and remove the air restrictors from the rotating barrel cartridge (note that the noise from firing will be much louder). Those mods should increase the range by another 5-10ft.
Another mod that Maverick users commonly do is the "roulette" mod whereby the entire barrel can be flipped out (instead of just half-way).
Check out a Maverick mod guide posted by Zinv over at the NerfSG forum:
http://nerfsg.freeforums.org/how-to-modify-a-maverick-3-mods-altogether-t741.html
I'm pretty alright with the CS-6 as it is. However, for giggles, I use the CS-18's 20-round mag rather than the 6-round the Recon comes with then slide a Crossfire onto the long barrel. It's a wicked little deterrent for my assault-minded opponents.
ReplyDeleteWell, I've seen a Recon do it's work. Frankly, I think it isn't really good. Well, if you play in a very narrow place, then the recon is the best. And, I recommend that you guys don't use the barrel. Without the barrel, it could shoot further. It's because the dart flies up into the air, and then,it slams onto the tip of the barrel, then it'll go tumbling down. Either that Recon was faulty, or it's performance will be like that after a while.
ReplyDeleteOh and the sight is super accurate when the Recon is not connected to the barrel.
Hey SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteI have a couple of questions....
1. I watched a vid on YouTube about pasting Velcro patches on a streamline dart's tip. The problem is, should I stick the "Meshy" Velcro or the "Sharp-And-Thorny" Velcro to the streamline dart tip?
2. I plan on buying a Clear Maverick as my first Nerf gun (yay!) and I wonder, will it support all Streamline, Micro, Whistler, Micro Whistler, and Tagger?
Musta,
ReplyDeleteIf you plan to attach velcro onto the tips of streamline darts, use the velcro "hook" side... so that they can stick onto Nerf dart tag vests which are made with the velcro "loop" side.
Mavericks can fire all the current Nerf darts, the only thing to watch out for is that you may need to shorten some foam darts (like Tagger darts) for better fit in the rotating barrel.
I' going to buy my first nerf gun and I can't decide between Recon and Deploy.I lot of people say that Recon with front barrel only goes like
ReplyDelete15 ft.I like both of them but for the range, which is better?
RC night flyer,
ReplyDeleteBoth the Recon and Deploy have the same internal plunger systems and their ranges are around the same.
The front barrel attachments usually reduce the range of any blasters they are attached to due to the extra friction and obstruction to the foam darts when they are fired.
Would it be able to reduce the friction by cellotape on the darts or something like baby powder inside the barrel?
ReplyDeleteRC night flyer,
ReplyDeleteYou can try, but it still does not prevent the foam darts from bumping against the walls of the barrel and slowing down.
Don't use baby power or any such stuff in your blaster, it will gunk up the o-ring seals and decrease the performance further.
The only barrels that increase power and range are those that are part of air-tight breech systems, like this:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2010/03/nerf-longshot-brass-breech-mod-guide.html
hi i have got a recon and i tried to mod it i have lost a small spring that goes on top of the spring, but i don't know the size or where to buy it from could you please help!!!!
ReplyDeleteviral,
ReplyDeleteYou can try using a short spring from a ballpoint pen to replace that small catch spring.
can i fit the recon in the strap? not like the longstrike which is hooked at the front and back part but just hook the two things onto the shoulder stock only.and if it possible, can i fit the maverick too? i am trying to decide to buy whether the vest or strap but the vest seems kind of expensive.but the strap comes with more ammo rite?
ReplyDeleteAdil,
ReplyDeleteThe Nerf bandolier strap is basically like a rifle sling (with ammo and clip slots) to hook onto a blaster, so you could also do the same on a Recon, just customize how you prefer to attach it.
Not sure how you could hook up another Maverick though, i guess perhaps with a quick-release carabina hook?
The Nerf tactical vest costs abit more, but it has good features too. There is already an inbuilt holster for your Maverick, with another zip pouch for another small blaster, along with ammo and clip straps too.
In addition, it comes with the clear clips, which are very useful when checking ammo count at a quick glance.
Imho, both the bandolier strap and tactical vest are designed to work together so it'll be good if you can get both for the best combination. :)
but can i use the longstrike's barrel for the recon to hook to the strap. but can i hook the maverick by the hole at the back of the pullback thingy?
ReplyDeleteAdil,
ReplyDeleteSure, the Longstrike's front barrel attachment can be used on the Recon too.
You can also hook the Maverick by its charging handle loop.
Imho, just try different combinations on your own, its up to you how you want to customise your setup.
Hey, can you get the Recon to reach ranges of maybe 30 - 40 metres approx 90 - 120 feet, if so can you make a tut. we can use Nerf rifles at the SQN for field exercises but we cant get them (the rifles) to go past 10-15 metres (approx 30 ish feet)
ReplyDeleteReaper326,
ReplyDeleteThe Nerf Recon uses a compact reverse plunger system which has small air volume with alot of excess plunger deadspace. These factors limit its range and power even after modifications.
So far, with the various mods and stronger aftermarket springs, i have only managed to get them to achieve 50-60ft ranges.
Here is an example of the mod:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
Even with the more advanced brass breech mods that i have done on a few Recons, i could only improve their performance abit more to achieve 60-70ft ranges.
Unless they are fired at an angle to get more range, modded Recons have alot of natural limitations to range increases.
But thats the expected limitations of a compact blaster with smaller internal plunger components. After all, a Recon is basically a pistol sized blaster with add-on attachments.
If you want a blaster that can be modded to achieve 90-120ft, then the Longshot is what you should be using. It has a direct plunger system that has almost 4 times larger air volume with minimal plunger deadspace.
With a combination of strong aftermarket springs, well designed brass breeches and custom calibrated foam darts, highly modded Longshots can achieve 100+ ft ranges.
Hey SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteCan the Recon CS-6 work with the Deploy plunger ?
Thank you sir.
Barty,
ReplyDeleteAlthough the plungers of the Recon and Deploy are similar, they have unique fitment parts, so they can't be simply swapped, unless additional adjustments are done to the internals.
Hello.
ReplyDeletePlease, can you tell me if Hasbro sells spare parts from nerf guns ?
I've broken my Recon CS-6 plunger after modding it...
Again, thank you sir.
Barty,
ReplyDeleteNot that i know of, you'll have to source for spare parts from other owners of Nerf Recons, or try repairing it on your own.
Hi im wondering which is better nerf recon cs-6 or nerf deploy cs-6
ReplyDeletethanks
recon if you are looking for options and more power. But the accuracy is better on the deploy plus it is lighter. Manuverability depends on how you use the recon if it is used as a pistol it has more manuverability but add the stock or barrel and manuverabilith goes to the deploy. I hoped this information helped
ReplyDeletedara,
ReplyDeleteIf comparing between the Recon and Deploy, i'd say the Recon is better to get as it comes with more accessories and has a more modular design so you can swap the attachments with other blasters.
The Deploy is an okay blaster to get too, though its mainly for it's "transforming" feature.
I have 2 questions
ReplyDeletedoes the recon come with its own scope
and do any of the detachable recon parts fit on a vulcan or a nite finder
nerfhurter,
ReplyDeleteAs shown in the review, the Nerf Recon is packaged with a flip-up sight.
The flip-up sight and red dot targeter are secured to blasters by their tactical rails, so they can also be used on the Vulcan or Nite Finder.
does the recon only come with the flip up scope or is there another one with it
ReplyDeletenerfhurter,
ReplyDeleteThe Nerf Longstrike is also packaged with its own version of a flip-up sight.
will keeping the recon in stock condition do anything bad or will it be fine because i dont want the recon to break
ReplyDeleteNow I have 1 more question which is better the Recon or the Maverick
ReplyDeleteThanks
nerfhurter,
ReplyDeleteIf you keep your blasters in stock condition, they should last a while under normal usage. They'll still break if mishandled though.
dara,
ReplyDeleteIf comparing based on features, the Recon is better 'cos it has more option to increase ammo capacity (with other types of clips) and add attachments (N-strike attachments).
There is an easy mod that I figured out just take it apart and take the part that the barrel connects to and you can shoot any type of bullet.
ReplyDeleteis the recon semi-automatic?
ReplyDeleteCharlie,
ReplyDeleteThe Nerf Recon is single fire. You have to prime it before each shot.
Semi-automatic is when the blaster can continuously fire a shot with every trigger pull without needing to be primed in between.
SG Nerf,
ReplyDeleteI just got my recon 1 week ago and the range is like this.
With barrel : 28feet
Without barrel : 37feet
Is this the normal range? Or I got a faulty unit?
Thanks for your answers you've given.
Andrew Khor,
ReplyDeleteIts normal for the blaster range to be lower with the front barrel and higher without the front barrel.
This is because the front barrel attachment tends to hinder the flight of the foam dart once it is fired from the blaster... in most aspects, the front barrel attachment is designed more for looks than actual effectiveness.
hi, i was wondering which one is better: deploy or recon? i wanted to get one but i cant decide, if i buy a deploy my friend will supply me with recon parts. My question is that can the recon light fit on-to a deploy? and also which one would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteHaeram,
ReplyDeleteGet the Recon, it has the useful option to be equipped as a more compact pistol (just use the main blaster unit without barrel or shoulder stock).
The Recon red-dot targeter and light can be attached to the Deploy's tactical rail situated on its carrying handle.
Thanks ill get the recon then =D
ReplyDeleteWait, If u didnt use the barrel wouldn't it just be like a maverick? like the only change would be that its clip system, since i already have 2 mavericks i wanted to get something newer, but in that recon/deploy price range. I would buy something like a raider or longshot but i have to get 1 quick because i have to attend a war, so deploy wouldnt be THAT bad would it? and is it's handle flimsy (the deploy) like people say?
ReplyDeleteHaeram,
ReplyDeleteYes, without the front barrel attachment and shoulder stock, the Recon becomes a more compact pistol-sized blaster. Thats one its its useful features.
The Deploy's main feature is its "deploy" function. Unless you plan to be using that function often, the rest of the blasters is pretty much similiar to a Recon (other than its pump action grip which some users find easier to operate).
The Deploy's trigger handle is okay to use, but being a component that can be articulated, its still less sturdy than the fixed trigger handle on a Recon.
Nice review.
ReplyDeleteI have this gun and bought the Flip Clip ammo refill set. I was wondering if the clip and darts included with the Flip Clip set is compatible with the Recon. Thanks.
Adjacenttopwned,
ReplyDeleteYes, N-Strike clips and streamline foam darts are compatible with all the N-Strike clip-fed blasters (ie. Recon, Raider, Longstrike, Deploy, Longshot etc).
I just bought one of these today and i opened it up to have a look and I CANT PUT IT BACK TOGETHER! The Thing that loads it wont go back the whole way.
ReplyDeleteI tried to mod my recon but everything just popperd out, like all the springs and stuff
ReplyDeleteand I couldn't get it back togerther again despite following the modding guide on your site (I don't think it was very helpful and the pictures weren't very clear).
Scope,
ReplyDeleteIf you find that modding blasters is abit too complex for you, perhaps you could try finding other more experienced modders around your area to help you with it.
Hi SGnerf I'm from indonesia. I had just bought recon cs6 and I am a bit nervous because my friend said it was a bit different matter on the magazine. He said that my magazine is able to reload in a faster time. I asked my friend to buy it for me. Please explain about the magazine stuff... I know you're an expert on nerfs :D
ReplyDeletejason,
ReplyDeleteThe Nerf Recon is a clip-fed blaster, this means that if you can buy a few extra clips to use, you can pre-load all of them with foam darts before a game.
When you are firing the Recon, once your clip is empty, you can just take it out and slot in another full clip and continue firing, no need to waste time manually loading in individual darts in the middle of Nerf games.
Hello SG nerf.
ReplyDeleteCan u fit the 18 dart clip that the stampede uses into the recon??
And im stuck between two guns. Either the Recon or The Maverick - which one do u recommend
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteYes, the 18-dart clip can be used in all N-Strike clip-fed blasters.
The Recon would be a better buy as there are more features and more options for parts compatibility amongst the other blasters in the Nerf range.
THANKS SG NERF
ReplyDeleteHey SGNERF,
ReplyDeletedoes the recon cs-6 get jammed alot or is it just because of ruined bullets - my deploy gets jammed alot thats why i want a new gun.
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteWhen used properly with foam darts that are in good condition, the N-Strike clip-fed blasters should not jam.
Bent or damaged foam darts will cause higher chances of jams occurring, they are wear and tear items, so it's always better to use fresh new foam darts.
How far can this gun achieve after modding?
ReplyDeletewafi,
ReplyDeleteRead the Recon Mod Guide at my Mod Works site, the performance comparisons and modded firing test data are all posted there:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
There are lots of other Mod Guides on that site, so do check them out too.
If compared with an Alpha Trooper after modding, which gun shoots further? thanks in advance
ReplyDeletewafi,
ReplyDeleteRecons and Alpha Troopers get around the same range after modding, because they both share the same reverse plunger system and air volume.
Same as for Raiders, Longstrikes and Deploys, they are all reverse plunger blasters too.
Hey sg nerf
ReplyDeletesorry for askin tons of questions but i want to make sure i buy the right gun.
do u have to cock this gun to make it shoot if not how?
and
are these guns available in KL, malaysia??
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteYes, the priming grip is the grey slider cover at the top of the blaster, pull back to prime, push forward to chamber a foam darts.
Nerf Recons should be quite commonly stocked at most major dept stores in M'sia.
Hey
ReplyDeletewhat guns can this barrel fit on??
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteThe Recon's front barrel attachment can fit onto any other N-Strike blaster that also has compatible front barrel attachment points, like the Longshot, Longstrike, Deploy etc.
Hey SG Nerf! Im trying to get my first nerf gun , is this gun good enough for starter?
ReplyDeleteHead_Killer,
ReplyDeleteYes, i would recommend it as a first blaster to get.
Hey sgnerf
ReplyDeleteI know not to buy the maverick now and i have a chance to buy a new medium priced gun.
im cnfused between the barricade rv10 and the recon cs6 - which one wud u reccomend ????
thanks in advance
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteIf you plan to get other clip-system blasters, the Nerf Recon is okay to get 'cos you can swap the parts around.
But for use in actual Nerf games, the Nerf Barricade would be more effective because of its semi-auto firing feature.
hi
ReplyDeletesgnerf - tons of people nower days are painting their nerf guns - is it safe to do that cuz the paint can scratch off and ruin the inside mechanisms -
??
thanks
Ahzam,
ReplyDeleteWell, its quite common for enthusiasts to re-paint their Nerf blasters, just make sure the various moving parts are not restricted by a layer of paint.
In addition, if you paint it with colours that make it look like real firearms, do not bring it out to public to play as that is against the law in most countries (including Singapore).
Can you put the front part of the Longshot so u can have like a noob tube for it?
ReplyDeleteAnjelo,
ReplyDeleteYes, you can see an example of it here:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/04/nerf-longshot-cs-6-yellow-review.html
Hi, first off I'd like to congradulate you on hiding your email address from the whole internet.
ReplyDeleteSecondly, as you know, I run uknerf.blogspot.com. I'm about to do a long-delayed Recon review and would like to use some of the picture in your blog post in my own. I would give you credit above the photos and keep the sgnerf watermark on them. I fully understand if you don't want to let other people to use your photos and would be fine with taking my own if I really had to.
Thanks
burntcustard,
ReplyDeleteYes, you can link some of the photos from my reviews on your blog site, just include the necessary credits and links back to my site. :)
I love how on the boxart the clip isn't all the way in and it's not falling out and still firing darts.
ReplyDeleteI think he just ran out of darts after the one he fired and is now ejecting the clip.
ReplyDeleteHow far can the recon shoot when its not modded? And do you recomend me to buy it? thx in advance
ReplyDeleteAwesomenerfer1999,
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned in my review, the average stock range is around 25-30ft.
It's quite a popular blaster amongst nerfers, one of the reasons is because of its modular configuration and if you use just the main pistol unit (no shoulder stock or front barrel), it's the most compact N-Strike clip-fed blaster so far.
How much is the gun?
ReplyDeleteabcdef,
ReplyDeleteIt retails for SGD$46.90 in Singapore.
Btw, you can check the local dept store retail prices of Nerf blaster in this link:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/03/latest-nerf-store-stock.html
Is the recon cs-6 noisy? Pls reply
ReplyDeleteabcdef,
ReplyDeleteNot really, its basically like most of the other spring plunger powered Nerf blasters, you just hear some sounds of the plunger moving when its fired.
what is nicer nerf deploy or nerf recon
ReplyDeleteZac,
ReplyDeleteNerf Recon... 'cos you can mix and match the attachments to use it in various configurations.
Thanks for the great reviews SG Nerf. Just got a Recon for my son for Christmas, and a Deploy for myself so we can pick up ammo as we shoot each other, and the Recon seems to be much more fun (but that's fine since the kid has it - although in retrospect maybe two Recons would have been better - hopefully a Whiteout version will appear soon). A quick question - when storing the ammo clips, should we empty them first to avoid bending the springs, or can we store them all loaded for easy play start? I have a habit of removing tension from all toys during storage, but when we have 4 clips (soon to be 6) it will probably save some time if we can pre-load them. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteDarth Charsiupao,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the feedback! Appreciate it.
As for the clips, its better to completely unload them for storage as leaving the foam darts loaded tend to weaken the clip springs over time.
may i please use one of your pictures
ReplyDeleteninga122,
DeleteSure, just include the source credit for it and a link back to this site.
Hi! Could you give me any suggestions on what gun I should get? I'm a trooper or a raider in nerf wars so I need a gun that has a decent size and weight and fires far and strong. My only options are the recon and the alpha trooper. What gun should I get? P.S. Could you tell me the width and heights of the recon and alpha trooper please. I would appreciate a quick reply as there's a nerf war approaching in my neighbourhood. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteCouldYouBEAnyFunnier?,
DeleteAll these blasters have around similar ranges... so its just their features that differentiate them.
Get a Raider or Alpha Trooper 'cos they have the slam-fire mode for higher rate-of-fire.
The Raider has an advantage of being packaged with a larger 35-dart drum mag (compared to the smaller 18-dart drum mag on the Alpha Trooper).
Just some rough measurements, the Recon is approx. 30cm in length (just the main unit itself), or approx. 50 cm in length (with just the front barrel attachment), or approx. 80 length (with the front barrel + shoulder stock) and approx. 18cm in height from top to trigger handle.
Alpha Trooper is approx. 50cm in length and also approx. 18cm in height (it doesn't come with add-on barrel or shoulder stock accessories). The Raider is also similar dimensions.
Thanks so much for the help! I got my alpha trooper and it's amazing! So gonna win this war!
Deleteoh by the way, in terms of outdoor wars, range and power, would you prefer vortex or n-strike guns?
DeleteCouldYouBEAnyFunnier?,
DeletePersonally i still prefer foam dart blasters, somehow they feel nicer to use... and they don't suffer from the slower shot velocity of the vortex foam discs.
Anyways, the modded foam dart blasters i use far exceed the ranges of even modded vortex blasters too. :)
hey sg nerf, how much the recon on singapore? because maybe next week i will go to singapore for vacation, thanks
ReplyDeleteiman854,
DeleteSGD$46.90... btw, you can check out all the local retail prices at this link:

SG Nerf, I want to purchase a new Nerf blaster. Which one should I go with? A longstrike, a fully automatic or a semi-automatic? I basically want a good ranged weapon that doesn't take a very long time to cock and load. Thank you! I am impressed at your knowledge! You are awesome!
ReplyDeleteShashwat Jha,
DeleteWith most stock Nerf blasters limited to similar 25-30ft ranges, full-auto or semi-auto blasters are always better than manual single-shot blasters.
In your case, you should just get the Nerf Stampede... it is full-auto, clip-fed, and if modded, will get much faster rate-of-fire due to its motorized firing system and more range due to its larger direct plunger system (compared to the manual primed smaller reverse plunger system in blasters like the Longstrike, Recon, Raider etc).
And if I want a good-ranged, accurate sniper that takes minimal time to cock, which one should I go with, the longstrike or the longshot? Sorry for another question, I am just curious. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteShashwat Jha,
DeleteSince both use the same method of manual priming, the Longshot will be the better blaster... it has the largest direct plunger system, so when modded it gets the longest ranges, compared to the small reverse plunger system in the Longstrike.
Btw, accuracy depends on the foam darts used, most players use custom made and calibrated foam darts to get higher accuracy and consistency (especially in modded blasters).
I don't think I will mod my blasters, but I think I will modify my darts. Which is the best way to do that and whether it will work with stock guns or not?
ReplyDeleteShashwat Jha,
DeleteIn that case, you can refer to some of the foam dart calibration techniques at my Mod Works site:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2010/08/custom-calibrated-foam-darts-conversion.html
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2010/10/custom-weighted-foam-dart-tip-seal.html
For stock blasters, just keep the foam darts at the standard length and use lighter weight tips (due to the lower power of stock blasters), you'll have to test and see which combinations work well.
Hey SGnerf thanks to your review I decided to go
ReplyDeleteTo Argos today and pick up a recon, it's really good
And even fires further than my brothers raider! The
Only problem I have is the stock isn't very secure
When I attach it to the gun (it wobbles) and is slighty
Tilted when fixed 2 the gun, maybe I got a faulty
One? Is there any way 2 fix this? Thx SGnerf (:
Anonymous,
DeleteWell, the Recon's shoulder stock is abit flexible (some modders reinforce it with metal bars or brackets)... but it should not be too tilted when installed, maybe you could check at the store and compare it with another unit to see if its any different.
Ok thanks for the info!, just one more question what is better the nerf recon or longshot (I'm looking for a blaster with a decent stock range and and rate of fire thanks again sgnerf! PS can you put up a picture of the longshot with the recons barrel ta.
DeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIn stock condition, the Recon and Longshot achieve similar ranges because their performance are limited by the in-built air restrictors.
Rate-of-fire is around the same too... both need to be manually primed and fired.
But when modded (ie. air restrictors removed, optimized seals, stronger springs etc), the Longshot will achieve much longer ranges because it uses a larger direct plunger system... compared to the small reverse plunger system in the Recon.
You can check out photos of the Longshot in various configurations at my Yellow Longshot Review:
http://sgnerf.blogspot.com/2009/04/nerf-longshot-cs-6-yellow-review.html
Thanks again sgnerf!(:
ReplyDeleteHello, there is someone willing to swap a nerf raider stock For my recon stock is this a good deal and if it is why? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteYes, its a good deal... the Raider shoulder stock is length adjustable and its much more sturdy (doesn't flex like the Recon shoulder stock). Its very popular amongst nerfers.
Ok thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteI've had my recon for about a week now and it was doing fine until now...when I fire the gun the spring makes a noisy 'frung' noise and doisent fire as far-what's happend? I haven't used it too much so what could be wrong? Thanks for the help.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteCould be the plunger seal somehow deteriorated or there is a leak somewhere, i guess you'll have to open it up to check.
Alternatively, it could have also been a faulty component that failed. If possible, just exchange it at the store for a new working unit (since you've only had it for a week), save the hassle.
Ok I will open the casing oh and by the way no springs are going to fly at my face when a take a look at the plunger are they? Cos I'm quite new to modding etc.
ReplyDelete(:
Anonymous,
DeleteJust take your time and be careful when opening the casing, most of the parts should still stay intact.
Just in case, you could also take photos of the internal layout for future reference when you are putting it back together.
Ok thanks alot! Ps is the longshot stronger/same range cos I was thinking of getting one PPs am I the only one who likes the longshots looks more than the longstrikes?(:
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIn stock condition, the Longshot and Recon have similar ranges because they are both limited by their in-built air restrictors.
But when modded, the Longshot can achieve much longer ranges due to its large direct plunger system, compared to the small reverse plunger system on the Recon.
Most experienced nerfers and modders prefer the Longshot too, because of its excellent performance after modding.
Its mainly new nerfers that buy Longstrikes, because they are attracted by its design, but the Longstrike still uses the same small reverse plunger system as in the Recon. :)
I have trouble removing the barrel extension from the main blaster unit. I tried twisting it 90 degrees but it would not budge. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteMost likely the particular unit you got has a production variation in that attachment part (sometimes that happens in certain sets).
I guess you'll just have to use more strength to twist and detach the barrel extension.
Alternatively, you could sand the attachment point areas slightly with sand paper to make the fit less tight.
How can I use my own custom stefans in the Nerf Recon CS-6 Clear series? The stefans just drop from my barrel.... I make it by using a hot glue gun and a FBR with 1/2 inch diameter.... I make it according to videos from youtube....
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIf you are referring to short length stefans, those are designed for sealed breech or barrel systems (ie. brass breech)... they do not work well in normal stock breeches.
If stefans are used in normal breech systems like in the stock breech design of Nerf blasters, the performance will actually be worse, this is because the stock breech system of blasters require a longer length of the foam to be chambered backwards into the bolt to create enough dart seal inside the bolt (which in all aspects is the actual barrel for stock breech systems).
When stefans are used in such stock breech systems, they only get chambered backwards into the bolt abit (because they are shorter) so the dart seal will be very weak, hence the poor performance.
So you need to have a sealed breech system for stefans to work optimally.
I have a recon (clear series). How can I silence it ?(it was so noisy)
ReplyDeleteBTW,do the clesr version and the normal version have different layout ?
Anonymous,
DeleteIf it is modded with ARs removed, then you should install plunger padding to help absorb the impact (if you have not already done it).
Otherwise, the other method is to install sound absorption foam or padding in the empty spaces within the casing to dampen the sounds.
Both the clear and yellow versions have the same internals layout, the only difference is the casing color.
I put a power stock in my Recon, and it every time i shoot, it bangs, similar to a gun with no air restrictors. Is that normal, or did something happen to the bolt?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteIf your blaster's ARs are still intact, then probably there could be some leak or loose seals. If you are using particularly strong springs, then maybe there could be a possibility that it could have also increased the impact force to a loud cracking sound.
How do you guys theme mod a recon? you know like WarHammer,AVP. cause I'm need ideas. FAST!!

ReplyDeleterecon or longstrike is better?
ReplyDeletelongstrike is much better
DeleteDear sgnerf
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of getting the gear up recon but is it any better than a regular recon i thought it came with more darts
Anonymous,
DeleteIt's basically the same mechanically as the yellow Recon, performance is the same too... just that the external color scheme is different.
ok thanks for the advice
Deletehow can i get my hands on the gear up recon (if it is real)
ReplyDeleteShane Lim,
DeleteThe Gear Up Series blasters were a limited edition series released back in 2011, once sold out they were not re-stocked anymore.
I guess you'll have to check eBay or Nerf forums to find sellers who have spare or 2nd hand sets for sale.
whats its the mod
ReplyDeleteAlan Torres,
DeleteCheck these Recon Mod Guide links:
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2009/10/nerf-recon-mod-guide.html
http://modworks.blogspot.com/2010/05/nerf-recon-brass-breech-mod-guide.html
On the Recon, is the laser guide and the sight actually useful, or is it for looks?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteThose items help to a certain extent at close ranges... but you can just as easily aim without them. :)
Sg Nerf is the Nerf Recon CS-6 still in stock in singapore? I'm afraid it is gone because of Retaliator. My mum said she will help me buy it on my birthday (30th June) please tell me some stroes which has it and location. Thank you Sg Nerf!
ReplyDeleteHong Li,
DeleteMost stores should be clearing them as they are old stock, so it might be sold out at some places already.
You'll have to shop around the various stores to find them on your own, i have no idea which stores still have stock since its an old model.
Note that Elite series blasters like the Retaliator achieve longer ranges and have a nicer blue color scheme, they are designed to supersede the older yellow N-Strike blasters which are currently being phased out.
Btw, why are you getting the old Recon model? Might as well just get the new Retaliator instead since its newer, has much higher performance and looks better too.
I want the scope and the recon i wanna spray paint it
Deleteanyone knows the size of the Recon Cs-6 Box? Thanks!
ReplyDeletebesides the clip the recon comes with, could you fit any other types of clips on the recon,if so which ones, please answer asap ,because i plan to get the recon soon but with a better clip thx. :)
ReplyDeleteAnonymous,
DeleteAll the currently available N-Strike/Elite clips and drum magazines can be used with the Recon. They are all compatible and interchangeable.
